Well hell, life turns on a dime and it sure did for me yesterday. Bro is going to be staying with his daughter. So, I’m here looking at what has to be sorted out, packed up, thrown away , put in the burn pile or donated. I pulled a bunch of stuff out of the lower cabinets yesterday, and cleaned those. Got a bunch of pots and pans that are going to goodwill, some I’m tossing, and some I’ll keep. I don't need 4 or 5 frying pans, and a bunch of pots that I can't find lids for. Once I get done with all that, I have to start on my stuff and start reducing the amount of clutter I have.

I ran the amount for monthly bills that I’m going to have to pay, and if I quit eating I can make it. Give up that and tv at least. So getting rid of as much as I can will make it easier for me to move, since it looks like that is what i'm going to have to do. Also going to have to get a different cell phone plan, and take him off that. Go with just a single rather than family. Since I don't talk all that much, I can get one of the less expensive plans. The stuff out in the shop is what is going to be hard to go thru. I hate to get rid of tools, and since the big power tools are new, I’m not going to dispose of any of that stuff. Not this year anyway.

I've thought about a reverse mortgage, but will have to look a lot deeper into those. Or just cleaning out and clearing out and giving this place back to the bank. About 3 months is all I will be able to hold out here and I know this place won't sell for what is still owing on it in that space of time. Renting it out might be an option, but not at all sure I could get what the monthly payments are right now. This is getting to where I need to go get a bottle of Capt. Morgans I think. Been out of it for a month, and that one lasted about 2 months or maybe more. Real heavy drinker don't ya know.

But on the brighter side, I had a couple of days where the weather was dry enough I could get out and get the pasture mowed, so it looks a lot better here. I know what bro is gonna do, so no more tension and worry there, and I can get things done for me, not him or us. And since I’m not picky about the brands I use for a lot of things, food will be a bit less out of my pocket. There are some bright spots, but damn I’m having to look real hard for them at the moment.

Back to the kitchen for now I guess, gotta put away all the stuff I’m keeping and arrange it for my convenience. Then go thru the upper cabinets and get rid of what I don't need there. Then scrub them, and the floor, then get something else sorted and packed, until I get it all done. Hmmmmmm, wonder if 3 months will be enough to do all that.

I feel for you! Been going through my own clutter and clearing stuff out that won't be making the trip cross country with me! Hang in there, things will work out. Just have to have faith that wherever you wind up is where you're really meant to be!

Hang in there. I know that changes can be a pain but in the long run they can also turn out to be a positive thing as well.

A roommate might be an option and the reverse mortgage is something to look into. I have had some success on the roommates on CraigsList.

That is probably best for your brother to stay with his daughter. I don't envy you having to go through stuff deciding what to donate or what to throw away...that's just not fun!

Reverse mortgage might be a good idea, and in the meantime, you might be able to find a good room mate. Keep your options open.

Good luck Mike..I hope you can figure out how to keep your place..
I went through something similar a couple of years ago..
My landlord decided to to let my place go into foreclosure after I lived there for 15 years..

Decluttering is good no matter whether you move or not.
I hope you'll find a way to keep your home, but as RJ said
change can be a positive experience. Have a wee dram of
the Captain on me!

After living where I did for 16 years I have recently moved! I'm not sad about it either! I offloaded more crap than I needed to have. I gave alot of it to a girl I work with.... well, then she ended up moving in with me and all that crap I got rid of came right back into my new place.... BUT, that didn't work out and she has moved out. I'd have killed her if she hadn't! There are alot of things we do differently and I'm just not going to tolerate alot of things that she did... now she can go do them in HER place!

I hope things work out for you Mike!

I am now going through all of my 'stuff' and tossing 'stuff' I haven't looked at for 5 years or so! That's books, magazines, VCR tapes, software on diskettes, CDs, DVDs etc.- things that are out dated and I have no use for!

I pack all of my 'small' stuff, in cardboard file boxes you can buy at any stationary/office supply house! They come as cut-outs that you put together as the box itself and its top! I reinforce all corners and bottoms of the box with 2" wide clear packing tape! Doing that makes packing a lot easier and easier to stack, since they're all the same size! They can hold a lot if you plan it out right!

If you consider any mortgage salvation available to you- I would advise that you have an attorney go through any contract, so that you know what's in it and avoid any problems down the road!

Good luck on your new adventure(s)!
