I don't know how many of you out there use Yahoo Messenger, but, I've noticed in the past week or so and increase of unsolicited requests from people for me to add them to my Yahoo Messenger "so we can chat". WTF? I'm not going to be adding someone I don't know. All I can figure is either there are some desperately lonely folks out there, or, lazy no good scammers trying to find a way to some easy money.
It's quite amusing because I know who I've given my Messenger info too, and, it's been quite a while since I've chatted with anyone I care to give it out too. I usually correspond through email first, then when I feel comfortable enough, I'll give the person my id for Messenger. But, on the flip side, it isn't really that amusing if some poor, naive person accepts such a request and either gets their bank accounts cleaned out or tricked into cashing bad checks.
It's a shame that the internet gives thieves easier access to those who aren't aware of how sneaky they can be. My Mom has her Messenger set up to sign in automatically, but it's set to "invisible" so that she doesn't get bothered by these requests. When she first started using Messenger a few years ago, she would get these requests and not know what to do with them. Mom is not computer savvy at all. I'd be chatting with her and she would tell me she "got one" and I'd tell her to just hit "decline offer"..took some doing, but she would eventually get it. After one night where she got over 6 of those requests..I finally got on the phone told her NOT TO DO A THING that I was coming over. I got there, declined the fools, and then set up her Messenger so it would appear she wasn't online. My sisters and I have also told her, when in doubt...just hit the "x" in the upper right hand corner.
And, on another note....grass has gone from brown and blah to green and growing around here! Going to have to get that lawnmower tuned up soon. Not to mention some serious raking before attempting to mow the lawn. Lots of small twigs and other junk in the yard that the snow had covered. But, I don't care...........................................yet. It's warmer finally, and the sun stays out longer...and the birds are singing...AND..the furnace has hardly run at all in the past week! Ok, enough on my little "weather report".

I'm always invisible on my yahoo account, but I get those when I log in...don't know when they come in, but I'm betting they are scammers.

I've had people asking me to join their "clubs" and to chat with them- but never do or did!
And, on another note....grass has gone from brown and blah to green and growing around here! Well, after WoW's blog: Variations...The Devil Went Down To Georgia- define the word "grass"!

I get them in my yahoo email and also from other sites and I just ignore them, even if I know the person. Unless it is professional, I have zero interest in openly being in anyone's social network beyond the friends list here.

This time I'm talking about the lawn, not the stuff bought and smoked.

I get them all the time.... they are scam or computer generated. And the message says they want to chat. The scams come at you from every direction these days!

I have been getting alt of these "Add me so we can chat requests" too. I thought maybe it was from AFF since somehow I have my handle from AFF linked with my YIM handle..
The ones I don't understand are the ones with gibberish and a link. WTF?

At least your yahoo messenger is working! Mine went into ignorant overdrive this past weekend. I've tried every solution they suggest on the website and even emailed the "yahoo team" who replied with a nice little message telling me how happy they were I contacted them but they haven't a damn clue how to fix it! So for now I have to use messenger for the web! Pain in the ass, doesn't have all the features and basically sucks canal water!

Mine went into ignorant overdrive Yeah, I have found Messenger to be a royal pain like the above too. Now I stick to the WEB BASED Webmessenger version. You can't do a few things , like picture share and cam, but who needs the extra fluff any ways.. besides, Iit is a great excuse when those lame requests to cam and picture share come in...
