If you have H & R Block do your taxes, and are fortunate enough to get a refund, DO NOT GET THE EMERALD CARD. I have had Block do my taxes for several years and have gotten refunds on the Emerald Cards with no problems. Until this year.
The cards being issued this year will not work in a gas pump like a debit or credit card. A lot of bank ATM's will NOT accept the Emerald Card, and when you find one that does accept them, they charge a fee for the transaction, and then the Emerald Card turns around and charges ANOTHER fee. I just cleared my Emerald Card and was charged a $25.00 transaction fee for doing so. Outrageous.
I am fully satisfied with the service Block performs and will continue to use them, but will opt for the direct deposit instead of the card which is about 3 or 4 days faster.
