I saw that yesterday. Many states, ours included, have really been proactive in the last decade on creating laws and agencies to deal with abuse and neglect of the elderly by both family members and rest homes. There has been a lot of funding for these agencies. A pretty big chunk of the federal stimulus package went into this in Texas.

It would appear that in most other countries, the elderly are respected and taken care of- in our country, it seems they are not!

I heard this on the news.
How pitiful and sickening to think of the older people being treated like this..... and by members who supposedly care about them.

I read this entire article and it made me want to be physically sick just thinking how many people are suffering, in silence and/or fear most of the time.

And neighbors who just close their windows.... they deserve to be punished as well.......

That breaks my heart. Mickey brought joy into my life when I watched his movies. My Mom is 86 and in an assisted living home. No one there is treated with disrespect that I know about or have seen when I am there visiting or helping her with the things she needs to be helped with. I know there could be elders there that don't have the attention from their children that they need, but all the people that work there are very kind.
This is a topic that will always need addressing. We should always take it upon ourselves to respect the elders whether they are from our own families or others.

That is just sad that so called "loved ones" would abuse an elderly family member. This brings back memories of Mick's older brother and what an asshole he is. His abuse was to ignore his mother until he wanted to make a grab for her money and assets.

People like that should be hung and shot as far as I'm concerned.

That's one of my worst nightmares...having a stroke and ending up in a nursing home with a caregiver prone to sadistic tendencies....happens more often than people want to recognize.

My grandmother was a victim of elder abuse...and I was completely shocked when I learned about it years later. What's even more shocking is how a person's family can do this to them when they're at their most vulnerable.

My heart really goes out to Mr. Rooney and his family during this very difficult time. I hope this law gets passed because it is long overdue.
