has sprung in certain parts of the country though not all by a long shot. For those of you who are still a** deep in snow ( my sister in Montana being one of those ) I thought I would send you some flowers to cheer you up !! These are the first flowers popping up in my yard and garden and I photographed them today and yesterday. Enjoy !!

I gauge my official announcement of spring when certain trees on my property leaf out. They seem a bit shy this year. However, if is raining now, and when things dry out, there are weeds to be mowed in the backyard...we're getting there

I was taught by country people to plant my garden in Texas based upon the trees. The cool crops went in when the willows in the river bottoms leafed out, the warm crops with when the oaks and mesquite trees leaf out. They do it for a living

I have six Arizona ash trees and a Bradford pear that will leaf out within 24 hours of the willows. It is religion every year. I declare spring based upon them!

The crocuses were pretty..I loved the purple ones.

I figure it's spring around here when it gets above 45 and stays there. And the yard is full of the robins that have returned. Also, another indication, the little red winged blackbirds...when I see them, I know Spring is finally here.

Well my dear, that may hold true for north central Texas, but I doubt those specifics work for Tennessee. However, I am certain that similar principles apply and some wise old timers in your area can tell you what trees/plants to watch for

Best,

Bruce

Thanks for the lovely spring bouquet Lil.

I LOVE tulips ...but right now the only place I can find them is in the stores. It's still too cold for them. Maybe I'll see their colorful faces in another month. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
