The importance of communication

This is sort of a continuation of the "finally, a great date" blog. We did go out the next night and had an even better time. I think we are both kind of surprised by how well we clicked. There is definately chemistry there. But anyway.
Last night we were talking online and he asks me "How serious do you think this could be between us?" My first thought was "Shit, we've only had 2 dates!!!!" and then my second thought was "This can't be good". So, he calls me and starts explaining about the woman he dated prior to me and I'm thinking "I am about to get dumped" . Which would suck, because I really like the guy.

But, that wasn't the case at all. This woman had him really confused. She had dumped him twice because he would drive an hour and a half to see her. She was offering him everything he is looking for. She even offered to marry him after his divorce is final. But...she is a head case. She called him a couple of days ago wanting to get back together. They dated on and off for 3 months and she is "totally in love with him". He told me that they spent 2 hours talking before I talked to him online. He told me everything. He laid out exactly what he wants in a relationship and asked me if I thought that was something that would work between us. And it is. I can honestly see myself in a longterm relationship with him. He is smart, funny, hot, he has his own business. I'm sure there will be things that I don't like, but it takes time to find out these things.

It just feels like we are starting in a good place. We talked for a couple of hours and I learned a lot about him. I think we have a good chance at this really working out.

Hang on in there and if it's something you both want then go for it and don't let any obstacles stand in your way. I wish you both well.

This if my first post of this type...
it's more personal than random comments.
From what you say, I read between the lines for the following possibility - You may be an insurance policy if he isn't over "her". If that is the case, in the long run you lose - even if he becomes your man. Too much insecurity and he is susceptible to temptation.
That said, I DO hope I'm wrong.
