At Christmas, I made a list of what I wanted. Now, it's time to make a list of what I want for Valentine's Day.
I want a girl I can stay up all night talking about philosophy with. She should be a soccer fan, ideally Manchester United or Chicago Fire, but we can work out the details later. She needs to have a good sense of humor. That means she has to understand my sense of humor; a lot of people don't. I want her to like watching movies, even the bad teen comedies and cheesy science fiction ones that I enjoy. She has to be a dog person. I want a girl who is politically left and non-religious. She should like drinking beer and listening to Jimmy Buffett music. She'll want to go sailing with me. Physically, I'd say she's about 5'4, dark hair, and has an amazing rack. More importantly, she's got a great smile. We should be sexually compatible. I'm not entirely sure what that means, but I want someone who is fun in bed and can spend the day just laying around with me. I want a girl who makes me better, who encourages me to be the best I can be. She should introduce me to new music that I'll fall in love with just like she'll learn to love Bob Dylan, Flogging Molly, and the Streets. She'll get along well with my friends, but not always need to hang out with us. I want a girl who will be there when I want her, but who will understand I need my own time and space as well. I want a girl who doesn't mind eating at Taco Bell and shopping at Goodwill. She hates cold weather but loves the rain. She likes hanging out and watching sports on TV. I want a girl who can make me smile when I'm feeling down. I want to meet a girl who makes me believe in love at first sight...
I could probably go on listing characteristics my dream girl would have, but I know it doesn't matter. None of the girls I've fallen for would fit this list 100%, and I'm sure the girl I end up marrying some day won't either. I think that's the great thing about love, it makes list like this not matter. We don't know what we want; if we did, we'd be a lot happier.
