I've been playing Battlefield Bad Company Two which is a war game but if there is no action or combat the guys get to talking shit. One of them said you know DEET ? You know what mosquito control sprayed all through the neighborhood to control the mosquitos. He said well as kids we ran through the DEET & pretended to be angels but no one told us it would make you go mental. Well I probably did but didn't pretend to be an angel. As a kid it was interesting to see the whole street fog up to where you couldn't see twenty feet ahead of you for a little while. So who here has BEAT FEET through the DEET ?

I guess it's only a matter of time before they make some of these video games start talking about asbestos or black mold like they have here in the Portsmouth police dept. building. Ah, I can see it now where a few of these cops sharing stories over their portable radios with each other about their recent exposure to all of this shit.

Sadly, this shit is no joke as far as this being an actual problem here with the Portsmouth police dept. building.

Growing up in SoCal there wasn't a creek, river or lake within fifty miles that had any water in it for more than a day or two. Consequently, mosquitos were only things that we had heard about. I don't think I was ever bitten by a mosquito until I was in junior high during a vacation when we spent the night in El Paso.

I remember as a kid when my parents heard the mosquito control truck coming through they would get us kids in the house and close all windows till that truck was gone. In fact, they'd keep them closed a while after the truck was gone. And Dad would bring the dogs in too.

Mom wouldn't let us out to play in the fog of it. Never understood why back then, but I do now.

Believe it or not after posting this blog I looked up mosquito truck & saw a few with real life similar stories about playing in the fog of insecticides as a kid so it's not uncommon.

Those kids will try anything to get high, even if it has the potential to kill. By the way Deet is a mosquito and insect repellent, also repels ticks, it's not designed to kill mosquitos.
This is what they use in MA to control mosquitos:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Central Mass. Mosquito Control Project relies mainly on four different products for biological/chemical mosquito control as part of an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program. Two are for larval control, two are used for larvae and pupae, and two are for adult mosquito control. Many factors were involved in choosing these products; environmental concerns, public opinion, cost analysis, and product efficacy. We feel these products present the lowest risk to the public at large and non-target species that are on the market today while maintaining good control against mosquitoes. The links below will explain each product in use by CMMCP; product labels and MSDS sheets are included at each link.

LARVAL MOSQUITO CONTROL PRODUCTS:
Bti (Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis) – a naturally occurring, non-reproducing bacterium

Altosid® WSP (methoprene) – an insect growth regulator (IGR) specific to mosquito larvae

VectoLex® WSP (Bacillus sphaericus) – a naturally occurring, non-reproducing bacterium

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LARVAL/PUPAL MOSQUITO CONTROL PRODUCT:
Agnique® MMF – an ethoxylated alcohol surface film

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ADULT MOSQUITO CONTROL PRODUCTS:
Anvil® 10+10 (sumithrin) – used for ULV (Ultra Low Volume) applications

Suspend® SC (deltamethrin) – used for barrier treatments (*new in 2008)

Anvil®, Scourge® and Suspend® are synthetic pyrethroids (pyrethrums are found in chrysanthemums, and pyrethroids are a synthetic copy of pyrethrums, and have a lower risk to humans and other non-target organisms).

Some common pyrethroid products use by consumers include pesticides for common household pests such as ants and wasps; flea and tick shampoos/collars for pets; lice and scabies treatments (shampoos, etc.) for humans; insect repellent clothing, etc.
