Fucking always struck me as a specific type of sex whether youre in a relationship or not. Its quick, hot, sweaty, sticky, and probably breaks a bed frame or two. 
Making love is also a type of sex to me, regardless of relationship status. Sometimes, you wanna undress, caress and make the sheets a mess.
Fuck does feel kinda of impersonal, but sometimes I cant say I'm in the mood for lovey-dovey. I can take either one, because its sex!

In a word: One girlfriend I was with, liked quickies too! I always equated quickies with just fucking because both were just horny at that moment! But we made love too- which starts much earlier, before actually culminating in the actual act of fucking, which in itself, is usually the end result IMO.

When I was a little younger I used to use terms more like fuck and screw when it involved sex. Now with some age and maturity, I like the term "making love".

Hey, you give part of yourself to someone whether you call it making love, fucking, or screwing, so why give it to someone you don't love or care anything about? I would rather not have a lifestyle of fucking someone just because I'm horny. That's just too cold, shallow, and empty to me.
Sure, when I was younger, I didn't put a lot of thought into it until I got a little older, and my outlook on life changed. That's how I am anymore.

Well....Kat-I am with you on this one...however....I must admit that in my last "relationship" if you want to call it that....was really just a "booty call" because I set it up that way. I set it up that way because I was not about to let my feelings get involved. So...I guess it's fair to label it "fucking"...although there were certainly several times when I would NOT have called it that.
So I guess it kind of sort of depends on just exactly what the circumstance might be.....but in the context of your question....I think sometimes even in a committed relationship that there is a difference...and that's ok.....and there have been times when we all have "just fucked" someone.....I don't like to call it that either...but....I guess I'm a bit more pragmatic these days.....all in the name of protecting my wounded heart! Hopefully Mr. Right will get here soon...

A fuck is just a fuck....simply put.  ...It can be with someone you just want to hook up with, or it can be a lunchbreak sweaty bout of afternoon delight with you s/o.......more grunting and thrusting than anything else..often time constraints exist...... Sometimes it does the trick....
But making love...there is an implication of love there....it's more deliberate and sensual to me.....more caressing and I find that it involves FOREPLAY.....(Very important)...it's also less geared towards the gotta get mine mentality...  .....JMHO..

This is an excellent demonstration of the different ways men and women are wired... it's all enjoyable depending upon the person, timing, romantic feelings or lack of them.

It depends on my emotional involvement with the other person. I don't have sex outside of relationships so I guess a good example would be when I first got married to my last husband it was making love but after he turned into a dickhead dictator and the feelings were gone it became just fucking him so he would shut the hell up and go to sleep. I see it as a big difference between the two.

So it sounds like the general census is...it's "fucking" when it's fast and dirty...but "making love" when it's slow and coupled with foreplay and emotions.
I still think it has nothing to do with the length of time one is doing the horizontal mambo...it's really all about the emotions. Case in point...I've turned down my fair share of guys if I didn't feel "it" when we were at the moment of truth.
That's why I know I'm making love with a guy when I slip between the sheets.
