Who in your opinion will run, or should run for President in 2012 against Obama, and why do you think that person should run?

I would love to see Newt Gingrich (and believe he's going to announce his run for it this early March) because I love his ideas, and what he did with "Contract with America" back in 1995. I also think he would make a hell of a strong leader, and provide the leadership that's needed for this great country. I also like his economic and social conservatism.

Bonus question:

Who should run on that ticket, and why?

I would love to see Michele Bachmann (U.S. Rep from Minnesota) run on the same ticket as Newt Gingrich. She's a strong woman who's very conservative on economics and social issues as well. She believes in lower taxes, against wasteful spending, and smaller government.

It would be interesting to see Hillary Clinton resign her Secretary of State position and run against Obama in the dem primary, and actually win it, and then go on to lose in the general election to Gingrich and Bachmann in Nov.

I think when after the midterm elections where the republicans took the house and then cannot deliver jobs which is what the people want there will be another backlash and the pendulum is going to swing back the other way. If Hillary ran I have a feeling she would be the first female president. Unless something drastic happens I think Obama will win that election and the house might just pick up some democratic members. This country never stays far to the right or the left so it will balance out by the next election.

Alfred E. Newman would be my choice! Official Candidate Portrait. At least he can keep the people at ease by not worrying about anything! Absolutely no sense of direction but... the people will be at ease!!! Oh wait... we already have no sense of direction- well... at least half of what I said would be true!

Actually... it's too early to try and digest what each candidate has to offer yet! Remember: don't listen to what politicians have to say- watch what they do!

Actually, the time is right. Within the next few weeks we're going to see people entering the 2012 race.

I'm going to have to agree with you about this one, Som.

I always enjoy political theater. I anticipate a lot of 2008 republican crop to be trotted out along with Palin and some new rising star like former Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty. A lot will depend upon what happens with the economy in the next two years. What I will be watching is how much impact the tea party has. The people that they back will not be electable nationally.

I don't foresee Gingrich making the cut. If I was going to place a bet right now on who the 2012 republican standard bearer would be, my money would be on Mitt Romney, a man whose first name is so odd that you would think he was one of Palin's kids. Of course, Barrack is a strange name also.

I think if the Republicans want someone who can compete on a national level they need to find a moderate rather than someone way to the right and who understands the old phrase "It's the economy". I see the far right getting too involved in trying to take us back to the dark ages on social issues and losing focus on the fact people want jobs and are pissed off because they are not out there.

I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one. It may have worked with Bush 43 (him being moderate and getting him elected, but look at some of the mess he got us in), But it didn't work with McCain (moderate.....I truly believe we lost for two reasons....1. because of Bush 43, and 2. McCain was the weaker of the two on the ticket with Palin).

I truly believe people are more right center than being totally in the middle, or left of center.

You're hogging all the views again!

I honestly don't know at this point. I did like Mike Huckabee last time, then again, Romney would be a good candidate. As for running mates...don't know.
