It was 25 years ago today that this disaster occured. In memory, I thought that we could take some time today and mourne those who lost their lives on Challenger, and to keep their families and loved ones in our hearts today.

Where were you on this day back on Jan. 28, 1986 when this happened?

I was a senior in high school and in studyhall where the studyhall was next to the library where they had the tv on watching this live event go down. It was shorty after noon when I saw the tragedy unfold. A lot of us saw this in the library on tv and couldn't believe this happened.

Jan. 28, 1986: The Challenger Disaster

I have always loved this part of the speech below from Ronald Reagan later that day following this tragedy.

We will never forget them, nor the last time we saw them, this morning, as they
prepared for the journey and waved goodbye and "slipped the surly bonds of
earth" to "touch the face of God." -- Ronald Reagan, Jan. 28, 1986

It is one of those moments that you always remember. I was cooking breakfast on a day off when a friend called and told me about it.

I was living in Oregon at the time and was fast asleep when the tragedy first occurred. I was awakened by a family member...and we spent the next couple of hours watching the tragedy unfold on T.V.
