And while she's asleep we are free to roam the savannah and nearby forest.
There are still dangers though, significant dangers that must be handled with care. You see, the plains are full of elephants, towering, heavy, magnificent creatures. You can hear their trumpets from great distances as they make their presence well known. They do not scare easily. It is, in fact, a myth that they are afraid of smaller creatures such as mice. All the noise and rearing up is merely fair warning before the stomping begins with many heavy flat feet. Hanging with the elephants has another drawback, the herd never forgets. Once an individual has turned an opinion into a memory, the herd will carry this on indefinately. Careful how you interact with elephants.
The nearby forest has lively inhabitants as well. The small grove of trees is full to bursting with monkeys. The monkeys are a lively bunch, swining from branch to branch, grooming each other, conversing in a fast chatter. A casual visitor may be invited to play along. But "monkey-see-monkey-do" is not a game with flexible rules. Penalties for rule breaking are enforced by the whole troop pelting violators with thier own excrement. Occasionally large silverbacks can be found among the monkeys. Silverbacks seem to do an excellent job of keeping the minions peaceful and excrement free. My advice would be, if you go to visit the monkeys, stay close to the silverbacks, but not too close of course.
Above it all there are massive flocks of brightly colored birds. The birds flight from perch to perch in what seems a never ending frenzy of activity. Many beautiful calls and songs can be heard among the birds. Unfortunately too much time spent with them can give you a headache and turn all those beautiful calls into an unintelligable din. Moderation is key when communing with birds.
The landscape is a varied and beautiful one, pitfalls and all. Please try not to feed the lions as this will surely be the end of you. Happy traveling!
