14 more to go....oh wait. 14 more for 2 classes, and 6 more for one class. This was my first week back in the classroom. To be honest, I was nervous. Hell, I hadn't been in a classroom since '98! And, after a lengthy "battle" with the financial aid office, I finally "won" and was granted financial aid to attend classes at Delta. A little background here: Back in '88, I was 23, and, life was a party then. Yeah, I went to college at Delta, but didn't take it too serious...until it was too late and I screwed up my GPA and lost my financial aid, and had to drop out. That sucked. But, during this time, my best friend had graduated with her Associates in Social Sciences from Delta, and was going onto a 4 year University for her Bachelor's, and, she had a 4 year old son at the helped her by babysitting while she focused on her studies. When she graduated, she was lucky and had a full time job offer from the company she had done an internship with. And, I continued to babysit for her for a few more years till I started my job where I'm at, and in '96, I went back to school, at a different college because I still couldn't get financial aid with Delta (man!! Those colleges can hold a grudge!!!! ) And, about '97,'98, I met Mick, got together with him, and had moved up with him and his mom. I had always planned on going back and finishing my degree. Well, then the whole mess with Mick's brother happened, then Mick's was the last thing on my mind.

Last couple of years, I had been thinking I should get back into school, get my degree, and get into a better job. Well, I was going to go back to the other college..but, they were gone. That really sucked too cause I only had one damn semester left with them. I did find where I could get my transcripts....and was going to get them..but...I'm studying to be a legal assistant, and one thing I remember clearly from my classes is that law is always changing, and, since I had been out of the loop for a while, I need to refresh my skills that I had "let go" in the years since I last attended. So...get readmitted as a returning student at Delta, sign up for financial aid, and I'll be damned!!! That old GPA snuck up on me! Took a few appeals and yes, I'll say it, some bitching, to convince them to give me a chance. Which, thankfully, they did!

I'm starting off a little slow here, you know, shake off that "rust", and work my way back into the routine of classes and studying. I took easy classes for this first semester back. So...back to what this blog is about.... I got my first week down, and I was amazed to find out that it felt like I had never left! I mean, Delta itself looks different from way back, but, getting back in the classroom, felt like all those years hadn't past. And, I am looking forward to getting this semester really rolling. When I say that around my Mom, she always says, "I wish you had that attitude in high school!!".

So....just wanted to far, it's fun being back in school.

I thought you might find it that way. When I went to Beauty college in '95 I too was scared to death. I had very little confidence in my abilites to learn. Oh I could work hard doing physical labor but studying and passing tests?

But I worried all that time for was pretty much a piece of cake..or most of it and like you, it felt good to be 'back in the saddle' of learning.

Keep up your momentum're soon gonna have the world by the tail and you can move on up the ladder to success! Proud of ya!! Kudo for sharing 'n being too stubborn to take 'no' for an answer.

WTG, It is never to late to go back to school. I still want to go back and finish. I was going to take a Pharmacology class with a woman I know who teaches that class just to see how I would do? I told her I don't want to go to class just bring me the books I need for it and the assignments and of course the test's. She told me it was mostly math..I said never mind I hate math and suck at it.
She is also teaching Diseases of the body. I am thinking about that one . But you have to have already taken a medical termonology class which I have but it has been a long time since I took it. I need to start over also..
Maybe one day I will get it finished.

I just started my second year at University of Phoenix after being away from classrooms since 1995.

I can honestly say that I had the same reaction. I didn't have butterflies in my stomach. I had BATS! Once I got rolling, everything was almost as if I had been going to school my entire life.

I wonder if learning is something we never forget how to do. We do learn something new every day, after all.

The only downside to going back to college is making bad choices. When I was a vocational counselor for the state, I had a lot of morose clients come in who had went back to school to retrain only to find that they could not find a job or the field was in decline. In almost every case it was something like ATI, the University of Phoenix, etc. who are in the biz to make a profit. Many wound up deeply in debt and to add insult to injury, their credits were not transferable to mainstream colleges or universities.

I'm so happy for you!!! From someone who went back and for personal reasons wasn't able to finish my degree, I envy you getting to go back...but I couldn't be happier for you at the same time.

Best parties on school nights.. flirting with the instructors, okay well maybe just a little... ... make sure your homework is done before anything else, okay maybe except work... and congratulations on getting the grant.
There are plenty of them available, make sure you find all that you qualify for.
