Looks like the senate today voted to repeal the "don't ask, don't tell" that was Clinton's policy that's been in effect since the mid 90's.

Are their any military people out there that are members here, and what are your thoughts on this?

As for others on here, what are your feelings about this to where gays can now serve openly in the military?

Personally, I feel like they should have left it "don't ask don't tell.

I feel that they should serve, but I would rather know which were, and which weren't for obvious reasons.

If they're out there doing their job, and doing it well does it really matter what their sexual orientation is?

What up with America if its ok to spill your blood for a country that cant even let you love or marry who you want?

Let the gays have this one; there will be plenty more opportunity for the gov't to ruin people's lives in coming years.

I feel they have a right to serve as they the gay/ lesbians have for so many years..
But taking the DADT away I feel might hurts instead of helps... Some still can't handle knowing whom has been serving side by side with them...
But also feel that some still won't come out that they are a gay/lesbian...
I just hope with it being repealed that we will not see an increase in hate crimes..

I hated the law in the first place because it ment that if someone "outed" you that you would LOSE your job... It is not about the sexual orientation at all but the fact that ones orientation could be used against you, I wonder at how many service people were blackmailed and such because they feared losing their position to serve.. Many many important translators lost their positions because of this law.. I for one am happy that this thing is gonna be GONE... The only thing I am not happy about is that I am sure it had to do with the uber rich keeping their huge TAX breaks... So yeah pay for one thing to another.. The Great US American Way

That's where I'm at with it.

I've never known anyone that worked with me or for me come up for a negative review because their homosexuality caused inappropriate behavior. Sexual status by itself never dictates professional performance.

If I had to chose to work with people who were GLBT and professional or people that were conservatives but unprofessional, I'll choose the professionals every time.

I echo that POV.

I feel the same as Luna.

I understand, there are those who are not comfortable around gays...but hey, they're people too. And if they want to serve their country, I see no problem in it.

Okay, then let's have the men and women shower and sleep together in the barracks with each other. I can go for that!
