I did this little research project on my own. I learned some things along the way which I found amazing, because I would have thought the numbers would have been backwards. The national average, based on the 2000 census, is 96.3 men per 100 women. I thought this cannot apply to where I live. It does. Exactly the same number. The only time in the last century where the national averages have been near 1 to 1 was in 1940. Then WWII came along and plunged the numbers. By 1980, it was 94.5. It took 40 years to bottom out. It is not rebounding near as fast as it fell. It will be, at least, another 30 years before it gets close to balanced again. This assumes no natural or man-made disasters presenting themselves.

There are a few states now where the scales are leaning the other direction. Alaska is 107, Nevada is 103, and Hawaii is at 101 along with Wyoming. Some others, Vermont and Idaho are at parity now. There is an old piece written many years ago; something to the affect that the center cannot hold because things fall apart. So, which gender has the best chance of finding a real mate? The ones in the minority. And so it goes...
