Had to laugh at myself. I was married to a trucker and his dad was a trucker and hell if I know exactly. I think there are two types of brakes on the truck itself and brakes on the trailer. Where and how many sets I have no clue.

common sense tells me a brake for every gear or a break per ton....

that thing in the background of my profile pic might be a bit of a hint, so I'm gonna throw a curve ball into the mix.....
depends on if your only counting wheel brakes doesn't it ?

it all depends on the number of axels and most trucks dont have breaks on the front

five axles, two brakes per axle. ten wheel brakes total. don't count the jake, or engine brake. and yes they do have front brakes. or they better have, if a truck gets pulled in at the scales or stopped on the hiway for a DOT inspection, they had all better be working.
now, how many thought heck, that's easy, 18 brakes? and with so many brakes, a truck can stop in no time or distance. go ahead, raise your hands.
and to keep you from becomg bored with this,
driving and trucks
it is something i put up here over 2 years ago.

Ha!! I know the answer! It's 10. A set of 2 on each axle.
My sister was dating someone who drove a truck.

I had no clue how many brakes.....however I have been a passenger a time or two and know that tractor trailers can not stop in a flash. Maybe more ppl should be a passenger and know the dangers of pulling out in front especially when getting onto a highway. Since I had my riding experience, I always give the curtisy to all drivers. Don't get me wrong, there are some that clearly take advantage of the size of their trailer and piss me off......glad those are few and far between. God Bless you all....Keep on Truckin !!!
