oh joys, daylight saving time is over, thanksgiving is right around the corner and hot on it's heels comes christmas, then new year, and joy of joys, INCOME TAX TIME. yes, the next few months are going to be full of fun and games, food, and innumerable headaches, hangovers, and loads of indigestion.

if i seem a bit gruff about all this, remember, i want to hibernate from halloween until the first day of spring every year. that way i could avoid the false frivolity, the commercialism of it all, not to mention the crowds. so i'm kin to scrooge, and a good bah humbug is what i feel towards it all. but for those that still believe there is something magical about this time of year, it will be a great time. i lost the magic somewhere and never found it again.

to be honest, i've lost a lot of things over the years that shape my present attitudes. now, i don't care to even try in the least to find them again. time is too short, and the good any of them might do now is less than the effort it takes to regain something lost. so for those that still retain some of the magic, try not to loose it. once gone, you will miss it sometime.

Aw duster...when you lose something, that leaves room to replace it with something even better. How's that? you say.

I lost all the craziness of the Holidays a long time ago. Of course that can upset some people...you know, those who are greedy and want the gifts, gifts, gifts!

But I stopped buying gifts...I stopped the rat race and chaos of doing that. It took a little while to adjust to that but oh the rewards of letting it all go!

I take from the Holidays what brings me joy and peace. I love the decorations...but I don't bust my butt decorating. I do what I enjoy and no more then I open my Holiday eyes and enjoy everyone elses hard work...lol.

I enjoy the music. I now enjoy the Holidays so much that Merry Christmas easily rolls out my mouth because now it really is a wonderful time of year.

As for those that tells me I shouldn't say that...it's not politically correct? I just look at them and say it again and again...I do what is right for me...and enjoy it.

So you just quit fretting and have a MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

One thing that increasing changes and diminishes the holidays a bit is how many families are scattered to the four winds across the nation.

I agree with Softie. The holidays are what you make of them. Cut out all the stuff you hate or don't enjoy...and replace it with the stuff you love. Like Softie...I really enjoy the Christmas lights and decorations...and I don't mess with a lot of the other stuff.

I only buy for the people I really care about. Fuck keeping up with the Smiths. You'll drive yourself crazy if you try to compete with them. I also make a lot of my own Christmas gifts and cards...so I get to avoid the masses enough to really enjoy those couple of times that I do have to hit the mall for a little bit of shopping.

Enjoy life to the fullest...and don't sweat the small stuff. That's my new motto lately.

I love the holidays, the festivities, the lights, the spirit...what I don't like...is being in the stores the closer to Christmas it gets. Going to try to get most of my shopping done online this year. I managed to save a little for this year's shopping.

Look past the commercialism of it....that's what my family does. We don't have much, but hey, we get together and we spend the day together and enjoy each others company.

The holidays are what one makes of them.
