I know this isn't the usual blog fare for AMD. For that I apologize. But this subject is just far too important to me. A little background on the link I'm about to post. The Friday after Thanksgiving is always referred to as Black Friday. However the Friday after Thanksgiving 2007 was a little darker for a different reason than shopping en masse at the mall. On that day a very dear friend of mine lost two of her grand daughters in a tragic automobile accident. What makes the story even sadder, they were killed by an Illinois State Hwy Patrol Officer. Who lost control of his squad car which was traveling at speeds of over 126 mph, on the shoulder of the highway in heavy holiday traffic, while texting, speaking on his cellphone and emailing on his in dash computer. He justified his actions as he was on his way to another auto accident. However had he been paying attention he would have heard the message calling him off from the accident as local law enforcement and emergency personnel had cleared the site. He was still 22 miles away from the site when the accident occurred. It was a senseless tragedy made worse by his refusal to accept responsibility for his own actions. He received only 30 months of probation for killing these two beautiful girls, and has never one time in nearly 3 years said he was sorry! Please pass this story on, contact everyone you can. This man now wants workman's compensation for his injuries incurred in the crash. No family should have to go through this.

Thanks ya'll. Whapper I don't know if that extreme is necessary, but I'm hoping Karma kicks him in the ass to be sure.
Kat...not my loss but thanks! I do however know their mom fairly well and their grandma is one of my best friends. Just such a sad waste. Jessica was in college, plus she worked full time. Kellie was in jr. high, a cheerleader and such a sweetheart. Just two very exceptional young ladies that didn't deserve to die the way they did and that SOB sure doesn't deserve to get workman's compensation out of the deal! This was his third wreck in 6 years of being on the force. The first two cost the state of IL large chunks of change too. And what this didn't mention, he never missed a days' pay the entire time he's been off until he entered his guilty plea in April of this year. He was drawing 68,000.00 per year salary the entire time he was on suspension but still employed! Can you believe that shit??? And for him to not accept or admit any responsibility PLUS ask for the money, just pisses me off no end!!!

He was careless, I mean, texting, emailing, AND chatting on his cell phone while driving on a shoulder at 126mph?????

Just MHO, the family should sue HIM and receive his workman's comp. No, it will not replace what they lost...but, their loss was a result of his carelessness.

oh honey, i saw the mom and step sister this morning on the today show...my heart broke for them....the mother spoke of how quiet the house was...it is unimaginable to lose one child.....much less two...

according to the today show, he pled guilty in criminal court, but refused to admit to guilt in the civil case...

Thanks Sugar.
Whisper- He did. He entered a plea of guilty to reckless homicide and they gave him just 30 months of probation. That was on a Friday. On Monday, in Civil Court he denied all responsibility. He has not one single time in the nearly 3 years since the accident said he's sorry or shown any remorse what so ever. I feel so bad for Kim. (the girls mom) and I work with their grandmother, and their grandfather is like my "second dad". It's been so hard on the whole family. The fact that it has dragged on so long with no resolution in sight. The family agreed with the sentence he pleaded to because their attorney was afraid if it went to jury trial through some fluke of fate he might walk and receive no charges whatsoever. Kim agreed to the plea negotiation if he could no longer ever be a law enforcement officer ever again, and would lose his drivers license. That was also part of the deal. This was his third accident in the six years he had been on the force. No one was injured in the first, in the second the state of IL paid out several million dollars for severe injuries. He was kept on the force and on the road, where sadly his last accident resulted in killing the girls. Breaks my heart. Kim has worked tirelessly since the accident to change laws and procedures in IL. For that she has my total admiration.

30 months probation... can you imagine? probation for 30 months.. if you or I had done this heinous crime, we'd be locked up for 15 to life. They call it vehicular manslaughter when you aren't a cop.
