Film crew's descent into fiery volcano becomes Internet sensation
By: Pete Thomas, GrindTV.com
It might have been perceived as a human sacrifice had extreme climber Drew Bristol not been wearing a heat-proof suit as he descended deep inside a remote South Pacific volcano and its full of boiling, hissing lava.
Bristol was part of a team led by New Zealand filmmaker/volcanologist Geoff Mackley, at Marum volcano on Ambrym Island, trying to capture the dynamics of an active volcano while adding a human presence for the sake of drama and perspective. The video, which the filmmaker insists is genuine, has gone viral on the Internet.

That was some hot stuff there.
I just got a question:
How close did they really get? Cause if they were as close as it looked, wouldn't that line in the one shot have burned? I mean, lava is pretty hot.

Dunno- they didn't say! Depending on a camera lense's setting, you can get a different perspective between subjects- like showing the Moon as being huge with respect to a group of trees between foreground and background for example! I know I wouldn't be that adventurous, even in that suit!

That is a trip! Thanks for posting it. I remember reading about a volcano erupting recently in Indonesia or some such place. I suspect that the guy went just as far as he could without risking the steel cable melting. I am surprised that government officials would allow his descent. This one is worth a green disk as I don't have any that are bright orange.
