OHT "The Handy Man's" Tip of the Week..#2

Some will find this useful..some.. Not so much!!! But if it helps just one Person...that would be Awesome!!!
This will really help the Peeps from the North, that have a Lot of snow and or ice!!
I have been working on my Deck for the last few hours. When I built it..I had plans on making it a wrap around deck...well...Life is dealing me a different hand...!! So..In order to Keep it up to Building Codes...I have to put a hand rail all the way around it...... !!
Well ....this got me to thinking about Last week..when I went to get my Hair cut. The Lady that cuts my hair works out of her basement. When I arrived there....her nephew and two other guys were there Cleaning her deck!! Pressure Washing it. Most people think that you have to pressure wash any Treated lumber. (used on Decks and Porches!..I am talking about NON Painted...Okies?) Well,..... that's SOOOOOOO Not True! Most PPL that use a Pressure washer....don't know what they are really doing!!! If its Stained or Faded very Bad...they will keep on washing it until its clean!! But what most don't understand..is that it eats into the wood..and makes it really "Splintery"! If you walk on it bare footed...or your child or even your pet....will get splinters in your feet, and that's not Cool!! I told the lady about that..and she agreed!! She said it was Terrible!!!
On a Deck or Porch...that is slightly stained..or No stain at all= (Clear sealer has been used!)
All you have to do...is go to Lowes or Wally World and pick up some deck wash.
Read the Instructions......and its so easy to do!!! It really is! You will need to Wear work clothes,rubber gloves...and don't let it get on furniture, or other items!!!! It's mostly bleach!

The deck wash I use....tells you to brush it on (I use a Pump up Sprayer...but you don't have too!).....give it a certain amount of time to work.....and Rinse off with a Garden hose!! I have learned...that if its really Stained..or Faded...to take a scrub brush...and hit it a few licks...and it comes right up!
BTW....If you are like me(knees get sore from being on them!)...Buy yourself a set on Knee Pads.....they help SOOOO Much!!! They cost.. $5.00...and they are worth every Penny!!!
After you have Cleaned your deck or porch......Please Re-apply a Sealer or Stain!
Most sealer or stain Co. get you to let it dry for a day or two before Applying the Sealer!! (read the Instructions!)
For the PPL that have a lot of snow or ice..it will help when trying to clear it off!
Follow all Instructions...and All will be well!!!
Also...Ummmmm Ladies...if You have a Handy Man/Plumber over...and he is bent over.......Its really OK..to Slip your finger in the "Plumbers Crack"!

Some good tips there Alex!

As far as a power washer goes, I've often thought about using one (2200 psi or better) on my daughter's dogs when she drops them off occasionally, when her family goes on a long trip- because they really stink sometimes! What setting, nozzle shape and shampoo do you recommend for doing that??

thanks toad, thankfully i dont have a dick.....oh wait a minute...you said deck...everything makes sense now...wheeew....ive seen a few dicks that need pressure washing, but the nephew washing the dicks together

but my little truck has been overheating while idling, i plan to check the water after the motor has cooled, but would welcome any advice you might have, as i figure you are a jack of all trades, and master of most.....and if not....oh well...

Well Bro..for cleaning Restaurant vents they recommend...2000 PSI...!!
If you really don't likem at all... Use that!! No shampoo needed!!! I bet they won't stink at all!!!

its a 2001 s10 chevy...and cute...ahhh, you cant believe how cute. rims, bed liner, little seat in the back, tiny little back door...white...cute!

i didnt smell any antifreeze, but when ive run the air for a long time (ky is hot) and i turn it off, a small puddle of water always appears.

could you give me some type of price about the thempstate? coz that;s what i think it is, or maybe a head gasket? (that info was gleamed from the internet) i am very uninformed about automotics

Is the water in the car...Green?
If its just water..its Prolly just condensation...from the AC!! Needs charging..I'll bet!!!
Thermostats...$15.00 or so...for a good one!
Please check the water level!! (Only when its cool! Please!) May be a water pump!! Look for leaks! (Puddles under it!)

Yeah.....not a good idea to open a radiator cap when it's hot, unless you know what you're doing. A trick my Dad always does to see if it's a leaking water pump is while the vehicle is running, he will pour little amounts of water on it. If he sees it bubble, then he knows it's a leak. He also does that with the hoses to look for leaks.

Bleach is strong...but if you rinse it off well...No worries!! I was talking about the Water Pressure... Pressure washer's have. Some ppl....really over work the wood....with them.
