I'm a lil bit of an underground music junkie(Its the main reason I get on the computer), I really can't relate to most music that radio / MTV / BET plays. Most of my favorite songs and artists never get any mainstream media play, but I still find a way to hear em. I don't know if anybody else is like this...but if any of u are, wat r u favorite songs and artists that the radio and mainstream media ignores?

With me...I like variety. So if I turn on the radio...and all I hear is brand new music that I've never heard before...and this goes on for 30+ minutes…I find myself switching to a station that likes to play a variety of other music from different decades.

That's just me. I don't want to always listen to specific stations to hear a variety of music...but that's the way it seems to be. I can't really think of specific music groups right I choose to speak in generalities.

Frank Zappa is fucking amazing. ! Though padre, I'm not sure how you found a spectrum to put him on.

I have an insatiable appetite for music. I use to always find a band that I liked on the radio. Then I would find an interview or something and go through all the people they cited as influences.

Just to through out some of the stranger, but still listenable stuff I like...
Squarepusher - sometimes described as break beat, sometimes described as noise, sometimes even described as nujazz. A friend of mine, whose musical opinion I almost always trust, said that it was "too logical, too much jazz, not enough emotion". If that's your reaction, there's something wrong with you. (Note: this song was chosen as one of the few I could think of with a discernible structure to it)
Andre 3000 - not underground, but this song is far from anything that gets radio play. It's a "cover" of Coltrane's version of My Favorite Things. Since he was using a Coltrane track, it comes out far more sane than it started.
Dizzee Rascal - called Grimecore. It's rap with the beats dragged through a really shitty system. It's the last time I heard something that didn't sound like any other sound I'd ever heard. Good rapper, too. (His first album was good, I wouldn't recommend the rest).
Sonic Youth - though as you can tell from this video, some of their stuff got radio/mtv play. Of course, it was the early 90's, back when MTV put on good music and took chances.

Anyway, those are some of the ones that come to mind.
Good blog, you got a kudo.
