I was always excited to see the Houston Aeros play Quebec live. As usual the crowd went wild with our teams song We Are The Champions by Queen. I know you always see fights in hockey but they were bitter rivals like the Cowboys & Indians. I never saw the two football teams play live but it was still exciting to watch on television. All this excitement with hockey & football was in the seventies.

I almost forgot I saw this lady wearing glasses jump up & try to catch a hockey puck which she misjudged & got smacked in the face & knocked smooth out. What was cold is after she got carried off on a stretcher they showed the replay of it over & over even in slow motion. Her glasses looked like a ricochet bullet.

If you don't get excited watching a game you shouldn't waste your time watching it in the first place.

I love it now that it is football season. There is now something to read about and watch that interests me! The NFL is the sport that is an event around here and facilitates GTGS with friends. Of course, it is about the Cowboys or, as I call them, the Cowpies. Like the New York Yankees, you either love them, or loathe them. The influx of people migrating to our area in the seventies, eighties, and nineties, and bringing their team loyalties with them has really livened things up.

Oddly enough, this area is luke warm about college football and always has been. The TCU Horned Frogs are one of the top college teams in the nation, but they are largely ignored locally.

The real cool thing this year is that major league baseball is interesting around here for a change. Barring a major meltdown, the Texas Rangers will be heading into the post season for the fourth time in the history of this obscure franchise. People here tend to have a "Missouri attitude" the Show Me state. That is because the team won its first playoff game and lost every one there after, all against the Yankees. But I have been loving it! Usually, there is very little reason to watch a baseball game around here this time of year.

I was always excited to see the Houston Aeros play Quebec live.

I never understood why the NHL didn't grant a franchise to Houston. The Aeros get very strong fan support. It is a major market. It makes no sense to me.

I'll bet that they are giddy around DC after last Sunday night! As I like to say about the Dallas Cowpies when that happens, "Have a piece of pie!!!!"

The joke (that I made up) that I tell at GTGs, football parties, is as follows, (some people laugh, others get know me!!!):

Why did Jerry Jones take his pants off and lean down over the dessert table at the Cowboy Kickoff Luncheon?

He wanted to offer the guests an additional piece of pie!
