I had posted a couple of pics on my photobucket showing the area where I live. I would like to take a minute to talk about the canola bean crop. The pic just did NOT do it justice! It was acre upon acre of bright yellow blooms. I went back and did some research and found a couple of articles on it.
Canole bean is used to make canola oil, which I have started using exclusively, other than my EVOO. Canola is much healthier than corn or vegetable oil. They spent the past couple of growing seasons expirementing with canola and it seems to be the crop of the future around here!!
Here is one article and then I found This one
This farmer, Don Bailey has a wife who breeds miniature donkeys.. they are called Debs little donkey's.... they are soooooooooooooo cute!

Well now they are growing a HUGE field of sunflowers on the road I live on. They are starting to show color and I went up and took some pictures today and I will spend the next week or so up there taking pictures each day. It's going to be quite a show!!! I will be posting those pics on my photobucket soon so I will post the link for you to see.

God I love country life!!!!!!!!!!!!

$8 a bushel for canola? That's not too shabby at all. Takes a lot of hard work though.

Here in Michigan, sugar beet harvest is gearing up. That means there are going to be hundreds of tandem semi's full of sugar beets on the expressway. Word of advice...don't tail gate those....they had a news story a few years back about some guy who was following a semi full of sugar beets too close, and one of the beats flew off the pile and right through his windshield. He got lucky, he only got knicked by it...Doctors say if it hit him full in the face...he could have died.

Very Interesting!! Thx for sharing!!!
Most of the farms here...have been bought out by Big Money PPL from up North!!!
Many of the farms...Raised Tobacco...years ago...and we all know that Crop is all but History in the USA!!!!
The cost of changing Crops like that is to far the extreme....Plus the Farmers Land dictated to them what they could Plant! Lots of the land here have hills...!(In my neck of the woods that is!)
Plus the Old farmers were devastated because they could not Continue..with the "Family Tradition"!!! (Kinda like broke there hearts...if ya know what I mean!?)
Maybe the "Canola Beans" will help save some of the Farms..across the USA!?
Thanks again for sharing!! I'm looking forward to the hurry back now ya here!!!

Kewl and very interesting information Ms. Pink. I look forward to seeing your sunflower pictures. I just love sunflowers. I also love all the stories and pictures of our different towns. It's all very Mayberry. Yanno...small town...neighborly...NOT like Vancouver at all.
