A few weeks ago...I went to the Smoky Mountains for 3 days and 2 nites...with a date...
We visited Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg....TN. Nice towns..with a Lot to do..that's for sure!!!
We went for a show....one evening...which was cool...but I must say...the most Exciting thing we did was Drive through "Cades Cove"....its just a few miles from Pigeon Forge ....Its a Wildlife Preserve..that you can Drive through....!!! (I can't remember how long it was..it took us over 2 hours to go through it, that's stopping to take photo's also!)
It was Awesome!!! Wildlife was everywhere!!! Deer,Bear,Turkeys....were as if they were tame....!!
There's only a little small fence that I could see. The animals were free to come and go as they pleased!!!
We have wildlife here where I live...but they have Herds and herds of deer and Big gangs of turkeys....! Hell we saw 1 Momma bear with 3 cubs..and another with 2 cubs...It was awesome!!! Here some of my Photo's from there..along with a couple from Home also!
The best thing about this Place is...its 100% FREE!!!!!!
Do you know of any Free Places to go..that makes the trip worth while?
The ST. Louis Zoo is free also...but they charge out the ass for parking!!!

The Empire State Building, The Statue of Liberty and all the art museums in New York City have free days. Concerts in Central Park by big name artists, And all can be reached for the cost of a subway token with no parking problems.

Around here there are really only a couple of military museums and everthing else charges out the butt.

I loved the picture of the sunset..that was pretty. The bear cubs were cute. Around here we have a wildlife refuge that we can hike on or ride bikes. You can see deer, turkey, herrings, cranes, ducks, geese, swans, turtles, birds galore, fox, raccoon, and on rare occasions, bear or wolf will show up...but not too often. The wolf population is just now starting to "grow"..so they are still rare to see in Michigan, especially in the Lower Peninsula. I have noticed that the coyote population is growing...they are being seen in town even.

Thanks for sharing the pictures.

How far away are you from The Smokies? I went to UTKnoxville for 3 years before I transfered to Memphis College of Arts and had plenty of time to spend in The Smokies while I was in the eastern part of TN. It is beautiful. Glad you had the time and funds to get away.

I agree with Sugar 100%.

Do you know of any Free Places to go...that makes the trip worth while?
Even in a VERY expensive city like Vancouver...there are always fun things to do...especially if the weather is nice. You can go to any of the beaches...parks... or music concerts (night park concerts) that you want to free of charge. We also have a huge international fireworks competition...and multiple international sand sculpture competitions every summer...which are also free of charge.

Here are some links to some of those free places in my neighborhood. You asked...

Lynn Canyon

This place has awesome hiking, picture taking and picnic opportunities. I've been to Lynn Canyon tons a times and it cost me maybe $4 for the parking...and I always stayed a minimum of 5 hours.

Stanley Park

You can make an all day excursion out of Stanley Park by walking the entire length of the famous sea wall. You can also ride a bike or roller blade if you want to make the journey go quicker. Parking might cost you $8 for the day.

Queen Elizabeth Park

Bride stalking at its best hands down! I actually got 5 brides in one panoramic picture one spring day...it was truly funny and disturbing all at the same time. If you want to see flowers all year round...Queen Elizabeth Park is the place to go.

White Rock Pier and Beach

The choices are many when you visit White Rock pier and beach. You can shop...eat some awesome seafood...walk the pier and take pictures...or get your feet dirty by building an awesome sand castle. I've done it all...and loved every minute of it!

Jericho Beach

I love Jericho Beach because of its spectacular sunsets.

Minoru Park aka "The Bunny Park"

You can stroll...picnic...take pictures...or my personal favorite...feed all the adorable bunnies, squirrels and ducks at Minoru Park. It's not hard to spend hours at this park...just make sure you come bearing carrots, apples, peanuts, and bread crumbs. The local "residents" expect it...and will stalk you whether you have food or not.

The pics are awesome !!

Free things ....

Knoxville has a free concert series during the summer months on every Thursday night.

Bald River Falls and the Cherohala Skyway are beautiful places to visit that you can spend hours hiking, picnicking or just looking at the scenery.

A lot of the little towns around me still have all kinds of parades and during the summer months Street Dances which are always fun !!

There are a ton of craft shows and flea markets which are always fun to go window shopping in.

One of the churches in town has a free movie night where everybody brings their own lawn chairs and popcorn.

Fall Creek Falls is another beautiful State Park.

Almost all of the National Parks that do charge fees have some free days during the year.
