For the past year I just get lots of calls from scammers telling me that I owe them money and a legal action has been filed against my name and social security number with their law firm (which always has an unlisted number??) The always have an extreme Indian accent, but use good old American names like Alex Williams, Danny Jackson and my personal favorite, Brian Adams. They can never give me a bar license number, case number or even their office address. When I tell them that they're full of shit cos it would have been filed in my office not theirs and that I'm reporting them to the FTC they start yelling "fuck you bitch, fuck you, fuck you, I will fuck you in your bloody ass"! So I've started saving their numbers in my phone, when I'm in a bad mood, pissed off or just feel like having a good laugh, I block my number and call them to jack with them a little bit! I find it very satisfying!

One day while at work, a gay man called the shop. Being the closest to the phone I answered it. Right away without knowing who I was. He started trying to proposition me. I told him I wasn't interested, but we had a man there that was. So I called the boss over and told him it was for him.

nope, but my brother has been getting calls from a collection agency that is looking for me. i answered one day, found out who it was and hung up. but i have had some rude customer service reps at one time or another. and they won't pass me along to their supervisor for some reason. guess they have had some very unhappy customers complain about them.

Why do you answer the phone. I got rid of my land line and never recieve calss like that. I turn my cell phone off when I get in bed. they are rude and don't care about your life. It is ridiculous. Since I got rid of my land line I don't get those calls anymore. Don't answer unless you know the number calling. You do have caller ID...don't you???

I just start asking them for donations as I am out of work and am taking up a collection to pay the utilities and start giving them my sale pitch. They usually hang up and never call back.

It has been years since I got a rude one. That is one thing that I am grateful to George Bush for, the do not call list.
There are exemptions such as charities, companies that you do business with, and political campaigns. I am already getting calls, probably four or five a week, related to the November elections. But there are two offenders that each bother me about twice a week, Verizon and St. Judes. Fortunately, they display on caller ID, so I don't answer.
Don't answer unless you know the number calling. You do have caller ID...don't you??? Sometimes, it tells me who it is, sometimes it doesn't, sometimes it is cryptic. For example, some cell phone callers some through it listing a state like Indiana or Massachusetts. I get a lot that say "Not Available". About half of the time it displays a person's or company name.
But if I don't know who it is, I answer. It could be somebody huckstering for a charity. It could be business related. It could be somebody I know calling from a different phone. So rather than take a chance on missing a call I might want to receive, I answer knowing that I can simply hang up if I'm not interested.

Years ago when I had a land line and before the 'no call' deal I found out that if you ask to be taken off their call list they have to do so. They get 3 freebies once you make that request because it does take time for it to go through their systems. If they don't comply they can get hit with a big fine if one turns them in. So..........
I kept a paper and pen by the phone. When I got a soliciting call and my blood pressure shot up I'd take a deep breath and begin to ask questions. I wrote down the date of the call and I got the company name, who I was talking to and their phone number...all the time appearing interested and friendly...then...
I'd inform them that I wanted off their calling list and that I had their info written down and I was keeping track of their calls. When they would call again I would let them know exactly the last time they called and how many calls they had left before I reported them.
Most were nice about it, some weren't, some hung up on me. And admittedly it took about a year to get 99% of the calls stopped.
Now I'm on the no call list and no land line. It doesn't stop my cell phone from ringing but before I can answer it, it makes this weird sound and cuts the call off.

Laws state that solicitors, telemarketers, debt collectors, can call between the hours of 9am thru 9pm. If they're calling my house at 3am, let's just say a mama grizzly is going look friendly compared to me.
And yes, I've had rude solicitors call. One called a couple of years back, and asked for someone I don't know..and I was polite and said there is no one here by that name...and the girl shoots back with "are you sure". Ummm....DUH!! I just said so....didn't I? Her tone indicated she thought I was lying. And she started to tell me she was from some debt collections department, and I told her to stop right there because it's against the law to discuss someone's debts with anyone other than the person owing the debt. That is when she popped off and told me to stop lying to cover for this person. Yeah...I told her where she can go, and how to get there, and if she, or anyone else, from her company called my house again I'd be filing a complaint first with my state's Attorney General, then with the FTC. Never did hear back from that one.

I hate the whole "recycled telephone number" gig! Back at the beginning of May I started getting voicemails from a man with a very deep voice speaking in (and I guessed) a British accent. He went thru the whole spiel of "I'm collecting a debt and if you are this person continuing to listen to this message means you agree this is your debt" blah blah blah. So then he finally gets to the point in the message where he speaks the name of the person he's calling about. He says it so fast there isn't any way to understand it, but it came out sounding something like "Narimshamin". "If you are" big pause, "Narimshamin", please return our call. then gives the number. I'm dumbfounded. I don't know any Narimshamin. So I ignore the call, because it isn't for me (obviously). But the guy keeps calling back, sometimes several times in one day! So at the beginning of July, after a month of these Narimshamin calls, I finally call the number left at the end of the voicemail. A lady answers, stating the company name. So I tell her that her company has been hounding me, I give her my number and get the "just a moment". She comes back on the line and I tell her I don't know any Narimshamin. She tells me they will remove my number from the list. And would you believe I never got one more call after that? Whoo hoo! I did have a debt collector call me once, and he was the most vicious, hateful person I had ever talked to in my entire life. He'd been calling the house, leaving voicemails, and I ignored his messages (per the advice of the credit counseling people). After about a month of not calling him back, would you believe that pecker called my PARENTS? My folks didn't know I was having, ahem, difficulties at the time, and I preferred to keep them out of it, if you know what I mean LOL So I call "Dennis" (Dennis the Menace) back. I tell him he's to NEVER call my parents again. He proceeds to tell me that he can do whatever the HELL he wants to in regard to collecting this debt! Man, that totally FLEW all over me and I cussed his out! He said he was sending me a bunch of paperwork and they expected a check at the end of the month. I told him I wasn't sending him ANY money and that if he pushed me, I'd hire a lawyer and declare bankruptcy, and then he would never see one penny from me! In the end, that's exactly what happened. Dennis was so mean and nasty that I gave up on the credit counseling and hired an attorney. Man, it felt SO great to be able to refer Dennis-The-Asshole to my attorney! And it ended up that Dennis and his company got much LESS of a payment each month than they would have had they let me continue paying thru the credit counseling....Man, I never ever want to butt heads with someone like him again! FREAKIN PSYCHO BOY!
