ya do something you know darn good and well you shouldn't have. or realize long after the fact you should have looked a little closer.

last night i did. i finally got a new planer and it was working great. then somewhere along the line, i ran a piece of some very hard wood thru it, that had a very hard knot and now, well my new planer is in need of some new parts. not just the knives, but the lock down bars and the pins that position the knives too. so it will be a while before i can take any more of the "junk" wood i can get for free at a couple of the saw mills around here and turn it into anything useful.

but i do have my new table saw, some real good blades for it, got a small and aggravating band saw, and the rest of my wood working tools, so i can at least do a little of what i do best, turn good lumber into a lot of saw dust and scrap. lol.

have a good one today folks.

I think we all have done things we knew better than to do that proved costly.

I am sorry that happened to you. I have done the same thing. Not found a knot, but got into a predicament when I should have been looking closer You have a good day!

I work with wood all the time.....Curious as to what type of wood would blow out the blades on a planer ???? Sure they were tight ?????
My last dumb one.......bringing a new Harley home, getting distracted by some friends and getting off it without putting the kick-stand down,,,had a whole 4 miles on it...

I'm sorry that happened SD. At least you have other cool toys to play with right? But I have to say...you've got me a tad bit curious. How about some pictures of your handiwork? According to Ms. Softie...you're good.

I guess I should answer your question. Yes...I do dumb (I call them silly) things all the time. Don't feel bad...we all do...some more than others. You only have to worry when you continue to repeat the same dumb things over and over and over again. That's when you've really got a problem.

Have a great day SD.

i'll try to get a couple of picks up on my profile of a few of the things i've messed with, and what i'm playing with right now is mainly oak and some of the other local woods i can get for nothing out of the saw mill scrap piles.

it isn't all that costly, just aggravating as hell, i think the blades will be ok, just the lock down bars that are the problem. dunno for sure if it was the knot or something else, but i found pieces of what i think was the culprit when i disassembled the cutter head last night.

now if i can locate cheap source of cypress fence boards, oh the things i can make from that.

Try trading stock and index options in the markets where, if you're wrong, you lose money and feel like a real dumb-ass- even after doing my research on the stock! But, if you're right, you can make a lot of money and become euphoric- which in itself, can get you into trouble, if you let it go to your head!

Know what's worse than losing physical money even... (because you have control how much you're willing to risk)? The 1000s of dollars you could have made, if only you had tried your strategy and bought just before the markets closed the night before! I've seen 1000s slip through my fingers the next morning on market open, because I didn't want to take the chance and decided to trade on paper, to see what would happen! But, that's how you learn!

So, I know very well, where you're coming from!

Oh yeah!! Just yesterday... I replaced some pipes in my Mom's house!!
Lighting was very Poor!!! I had 15 or so joints Glued....!! I took a flash light and went over every joint..to make sure I had all of them glued!!! There was one joint that bothered me a Little...all the rest were fine.
I went back over them..one more time..just to make sure...
Then I turned the water on.....!! I had One leak!!! Yep..It was at that Joint!!! I then turned the water off...and wiggled the pipe a little...and the Pressure that was left Blew the line off!! Water shot out 15' !!
The glue had dripped off a fitting above that one!!!
I knew it wasn't right... but by being in a Hurry...I fucked it up!!! My Bad!!!
