Are there times that you feel like you have given up on life, and that you hit your prime years ago, or do you feel like life has passed you by altogether?

I know a few people that seem to have given up on life, and is content to live out the rest of their life alone and depressed.

Do you know of anyone like this?

Personally, I feel sorry for people who have given up, and not looking for another exciting chapter in their lives.

Are there times that you feel like you have given up on life,
No

that you hit your prime years ago

Sure, no fucking shit

do you feel like life has passed you by altogether?

Not at all. I had my times and I have my memories.

I know a few people that seem to have given up on life, and is content to live out the rest of their life alone and depressed.

My late sainted mother comes to mind. God love her and rest her soul, but after my brother and I grew up, martyr without cause for over 40 years until she died.

There have been times where I've felt like giving up. Hit rock bottom and all...but....as for totally giving up? No. I'm only 44...got a lot of living left to do yet. Prime? Guess that's all in how an individual views it. As for life passing me by....nope, like I said, I still have a lot of living to do.

Yes, I've known people who have "given up" and just let themselves fall in a rut. They've accepted that they have hit "the end". I also know some who live by themselves and enjoy life to the max.

The chapter of my life I'm in right now is enough to keep me going...I've got my job, thinking of going back to school in the fall, and 5 dogs to drive me absolutely insane half the time. Ok...actually, they're not that bad. But when they have their moments....yikes!

But I always look forward to the "next chapter".

All the time... Mostly cause I seems like the invisiable man...except for a select few people.

Do you know of anyone like this?
yup...

wow, I didn't make any sense there, sorry.....

retyping that first comment..

Mostly because it seems like I'm the invisable man, as in if and when I speak up.. I'm either ignored or stupid.. sorry for the double post

Nope; and I'm not even trying to sound irreverent. Funny, I was discussing this with my shrink today and she told me that it was of no use to wallow in that. And I feel that holding onto the past wont give you much of a future. I cant wish 18 back again, but then again I'm not too old to the point where its too late.

Not going to lie, I am formally diagnosed with depression brought on by chemical imbalance and a few "lovely" personality disorders to match. So how I feel sometimes isnt just situational or "giving up".

Anyway, good blog on an often unadressed issue.

There is a book I have referenced in my profile that every beautiful(yes that means all of us) woman should read...it's done wonders for me already and I'm not even done yet! But yes...I think we all have a moment or two like that in our lives, but somewhere deep down inside we draw from our own strength and we make it!

Well... sometimes thoughts like that have surfaced but then, things happen that make you aware of that proverbial "light at the end of the tunnel" energing that people talk about, giving you hope that things have finally made a turn for the good...... unless... that light just happens to be a 20,000,000 candle power lamp on the business end of a locomotive bearing down on your ass! - but... I digress!!

I know a few people that seem to have given up on life, and is content to live out the rest of their life alone and depressed.

Not really- everyone has their good and 'testy' days but everything in our universe moves in cycles- without that, the whole concept of 'being' on a living/non-living scale, just wouldn't work IMO!!

There's been times in my life when I gave up. Just lived by rote doing whatever needed to be done to get through one more day but eventually I learned that nothing stays the same...good or bad. And I learned giving up sometimes isn't really giving up but just taking our hands off the problem...quit trying to pull strings 'n push levers....and let the problem work itself out.

Some may think I've given up on life as I don't care to be in another relationship with a man...I like my solitude...and prefer pretty much to be alone. Have I quit looking forward to another exciting chapter in my life?

Sorta. Excitement isn't exactly what I want anymore. I can't emphasize the satisfaction I feel with the lack of excitement in my life. If I need it, I go find it...at my age driving an interstate could be exciting.....

Ya see Straddle...I've pretty much done it all and with minimal regrets and now I have peace that passeth all understanding. Now I coast and how awesome it is!

Life comes in cycles. There are good days and bad days. On those bad days I KNOW I've asked myself..."Why bother?"...or "What's the point?" But I think most of us are wired to get tired of wallowing in those "bad moments"...to pick ourselves up by the bootstraps...and drag our sorry ass along that never-ending road they call life.

Eventually...the bad times do pass...and then you're back in the pocket of life. At least that's the way it is for me. I've never been content being alone...so I could never "give up" on life...or friends...or family...or love...or the fun that's out there just waiting to happen.

I have come across a few sad souls who have thrown in the towel and it always breaks my heart when I encounter these people. It's really very sad.

Kudos on a great blog topic.

No I always just keep on going even on days when I don't feel like doing it.

Yes I have watched more than one person do that to themselves. It is a sad thing to watch.

At age 16 I was in a coma for a month and a half. I'm on disability, I never got my license to drive, I never went on dates, I couldn't go in to the service, I'm brain injured, I had a heck of a near death experience, My life at 16 turned and seemingly I have been rehabilitating since, I'm 41yo now. It's a material super ficsial country, ladies dont want me. I'm on disability(Poverty) food stamps, but I'm thankful for what I get from the government.
So, to answer your question, yes life has passed me by, I haven't had a women in over a year, I've been on this site for a couple months and the only messages I received are of women in far away countries who arnt women but are scammers. ya every day above ground is good but my life sucks, but there are people who have it way worse then me.

This is a good blog post I have weighed in on it twice. But I want to keep it going as it is a good topic and the recent posts are not IMO.

Yes...

But luckily I survived!
I gave away, or arranged for the care of anything I had cared about (except myself).

I lined the tub with towels, so I wouldn't ruin the new carpeting, or make enough noise to attract attention... If I couldn't control myself.

Looked for my scalpels... Couldn't find them...

Then the neighbor came...
She just knew. And, shamed me into calling and trying to get help again. This time I wasn't put on hold, transferred to another line to leave a message, and got in to see someone that day.
If I had succeeded, well then the "asshole" really would have won it all! And celebrated in Tahiti.

I came across this blog again and it reminds me so much of my mother. A great deal of the problems she suffers with now she basically did to herself.

The doctors all agree with that statement.

Once she went into the hospital for her heart nine years ago she just started sitting there doing nothing to occupy her mind or her body. She gave up on being interested in pretty much anything around her. The result is a pretty severe case of dementia.

I''ve been there. It's always a temporary visit as far as depression, but I'm just about certain that I'll be spending most of my life alone. It's just something I've come to accept. :/
