Here is the link to the original post with some interesting comments.

This is kind of a companion piece to Kat's blog, What's the story behind your user name.

Some people don't give the selection of a screen name much thought when they sign up. Some are clever, some reflect something in their life. Then there are those make you roll you eyes to the ceiling and shake your head or burst out laughing because they are simply so over the top. They are funny even though the person didn't intend for them to be and so inappropriate so as to appear that the person is not only egotistical, but delusional as well.

Fortunately, IMO, we don't encounter this nearly as much as we did in the past.

For example, some older dumpy bald guy calling himself Sex_Z_est_Man or a woman looking like the Michelin tire guy's twin sister going by RedHotBabe4U. It is a bit of a red flag for me as it comes off as person being full of themselves as well as being possibly not having a grip on reality. It kind of strikes me as being a form of a remake of the old fable, The Emperor's New Clothes.

Now, there is no argument that the value of a person is measured by what is within. We all also have to be comfortable in our skin, even if there is too much of it. There is also a need to be realistic in our assessment of our physical selves. After all, Sex_Z_est_Man is not going to see anyone looking like him in Chippendales or LeBare anymore than RedHotBabe4U will find her twin in an upscale gentleman's club. Neither will see themselves on porn sites either beyond a plumper fetish site.

If you encounter a screen name that seems to be bragging and/or grossly exaggerated, does that turn you off, especially if it is sexually implicating?

I must confess, screen names are the First Turn-Off for me. For example: "jasmyn003491" or "Wan2fuknow", etc. usually warrents a quick delete/block/ignore.
I never could understand why a guy who honestly wants to meet someone on-line would call himself "12inallNite", or somesuch.

Good Blog....have a greenie on me.

Yeah, I just don't have the patience for those who feel they have to "put it all out there" and brag/exaggerate what they have. Most cases....they don't "have it".

Although there are some...when you see their pic, and read the screen name, you have to wonder what they are smoking.

I never understood any of it either. You would think that over the years with increasing experience concerning dating sites in general, that people would learn more and become more savvy in figuring what works and what doesn't.

No kidding, and add to that, that the essay responses are generally of the same caliber. Then, in the case of guys doing it, frequently following a failed shout out blog post, they sometimes bitch and rag about the women on here in a blog. I tend to think that these clowns couldn't find sex on a Saturday night if they poured a fifth of tequila on their left hand.

Back in the days of the BBS people did not have pictures posted on the sites. You would have people going by sexy sounding screen names. Then came the BBS party where everyone met in person. I sometimes had a problem keeping a straight face. Let's just say the screen name and the visual image did not match.

Do bears shit in the woods?

Anyway, all you would have to do is observe my inbox, and the email that go unanswered are the ones from names like that.

I recall those days in the early nineties. Let's just say that the most normal people had the most normal screen names!
