On this topic, there was a physicist or something on the East Coast who had an interesting idea:
Put a series of semi-deflated car tires around a large metal pole, with the middles affixed to the pole so they wouldn't move. Drop it in the oil well, and inflate the tires. Then, fill the cracks with sand, rocks, etc. What the "physicist" fails to understand is that the car tires are mostly made of rubber (a petroleum product) and may break down from the oil itself breaking the rubber down- especially under the high pressure and flow rate of the oil itself!
It's not unlike using petroleum jelly on a latex condom as extra lubrication if K-Y jelly isn't available, when entering his g/f's exhaust nozzle! The petroleum jelly will start breaking down the latex condom when it's applied!
