I was just wondering the way my mind wanders sometimes. Could you ever have a relationship or sex with someone who has the same name as one of your parents?

My mothers name was Irene. I just don't think could have sex or have a relationship with a girl of the same name.every time i said the girls name I would think of my mother. And that could get awkward.

I don't think it would bother me. I have dated a guy with the same first name as my dad and did not think anything about it. He had a nickname that everyone called him though so maybe that is why it did not bother me.

It depends. I would have no problem with having sex with somebody named Dorothy, but there would be considerable problems with Dwight.

Probably. To date I haven't dated anyone who has the same name as my dad. But his is a common name, David.

My dad's name was Wilbur....there's few Wilbur's....thank goodness. I'll tell ya...my grandparents generation was on the name-their-kids dysfunctional side I think. Mom's name was Olive Pauline. But would it bother me to date a man named Wilbur? Nah...I'd just give him a nickname...

Nope, not a bit.. I mean come on.. half the world is a Bill.. aren't they? That bit doesn't bug me.. but I'm having serious issues with Jims. I am very careful about the Jims that I even talk to.

I don't think I ever met anyone who went by that name. With respect to your father, the only "people" I recall with that name were Wright of the Wright Brothers and the leading human character in the sixties sitcom Mister Ed.

A lot of people in bygone days had what many of us would call horrible names. I had a great aunt Bertha on my dad's side (believe it or not she was a tiny, petite woman) and also an Erma and May as well as an uncle Homer. My mother's siblings were Orville, Gertrude, Franklin, Clarence, Dorothy (my mother), Ruth and Elizabeth. The first four seem so dreadful!

This a unique blog, so let me give you a green thing PP.

My mother's siblings were Orville, Gertrude, Franklin, Clarence, Dorothy (my mother), Ruth and Elizabeth.

With my mom's siblings they went by different names. In order they were Junior, Cora, Buster, Elmo (bad choice to me), Dorothy, Ruth, and Betsy.

I thought about this very same thing a long time ago. It would be very hard to for me to. Hell, it would even be hard for me to really get into someone who had the same name as my sister.

Gives the song "I want a girl that's just like the girl that married dear old dad" new meaning.

Gessshhh...I never gave it much thought until your blog. I did date a guy at one time who had the same name as my dad and thanks to you...I'm having a bit of an "ewwww moment" right now.

On a serious note...I don't see how it would really matter that much in the scheme of things since we are all so different. It's just a name right?

All my relatives have very common names. I've dated somebody whose name was the same as one of my sisters. It was weird for a minute, then didn't bother me.

I do think it's kinda strange when you date somebody with the same name as your last ex. This has happened with me, and I think all of my sisters.
