Like KayJay said
Florida has them all over the state and most of ours aren't caused
by storms..We live in a thin layer of sand, limestone and coral

Weird..........that hole almost looked like it had been drilled instead of happening naturally..........of course since I have never seen something like that before ...........maybe they all do....

How very sad for that to happen.

I saw that. We get them in Texas once in a while. I recall seeing one in Florida on the news a few years ago that opened up under a road at an intersection that swallowed up a car stopped at it.

I'm waiting for Detroit to cave in, in a giant sink hole once a major disaster happens in the salt mines underneath the city! Throughout the mine, they have huge salt pillars to shore up the ceiling in the mine in strategic areas but, what happens if the Detroit River manages to begin flooding the mine? Inquiring minds, want to know!!

BTW- that sink hole looks close to a Kimberlite Pipe where diamonds are mined from!

These pipes are called "kimberlites" or "kimberlite pipes" (see diagram below). Kimberlite pipes can lie directly underneath shallow lakes formed in the inactive volcanic calderas or craters.

^^^^^ We're talking millions of years ago no doubt!

Kimberlite Pipe formation

Just a thought!
