Memorial Day posted 5/31/2010 8:21:23 AM | 0 kudos what's this?     report abuse   Earthquake501149 Today is Memorial Day. It is not just an extra day off with cookouts, or a day at the lake. It is a day set aside as a tribute to our fallen soldiers. Memorial Day has always had a special place in my heart because my Father was killed in action in World War II near the end of the war. I was about 22 months old, so I never really knew him. There has always been an emptiness in my heart that would never go away. Sure, I enjoy the time spent with friends and family, and the cookouts and the day at the lake, but I always take a moment to honor my dad and ALL his fallen comrades. Freedom in not cheap. 	What is more, I'll add, I really dislike those hooting yahoos that treat the day like it was an excuse to party as obnoxiously as they can. People should be at least a little solemn for everything our veterans have given us.
