RJ53’s recent blog about blog comments got me thinking about blog topics, individual blogger styles and the atmosphere surrounding the blogs in Pervia and how they are perceived by other people.

I’ve noticed a trend in Blog Land over the past few months that I find very interesting. What I’ve noticed is when bloggers such as WoW, Softie, Dione, B9CC1D, or DickSlippery (to name a few) write in-depth and detailed blogs…these are the types of blogs we have come to know and admire from these particular bloggers. However…when you take a blogger such as me, who loves to do brief, light-hearted and fluffy blogs that encourage participation and camaraderie…and then I decide to do a 180-degree turn and post a blog that is more serious and in-depth in nature…I find…at times…I might be a bit pigeon-holed with my blog-set.

It’s not to say that I don’t enjoy the fun and fluffy types of blogs…it’s just sometimes I want to change it up a bit and wear a different hat on that particular day. If I get a fewer comments on these particular blogs…it doesn’t upset me…I just find it interesting and go with my creative flow.

Now…this is where I have the problem. When other bloggers complain about the types of blogs another blogger writes…or complains about how they weren’t picked in a game-like blog, or how they don’t think it’s fair when another blog gets a lot of comments…and their blog is only getting a few comments. I might also add that it appears a lot bloggers are now timid about participating in game-style blogs because they have found out it hurts certain other blogger’s feelings…so now they don’t participate at all. It’s fine if those bloggers choose not to participate because they don’t want to…but to keep from upsetting a few select people. I don’t get this...I don’t get it at all!

When did Pervia become a popularity contest? Are we all still in freakin’ high school where we’re all divided into cliques and expected to adhere to a certain childish standard? I’ve personally written a few very serious blogs that were near and dear to my heart…but I would never dream of taking my insecurities about the lack of comments out on Pervia. (And no DS…I’m not talking about your recent blog entitled “A Little Help”) IMO…I find the above-mentioned behavior extremely childish.

Am I alone in this opinion? If I am…I would really like to know.

I will add that this day has not been an easy day for me. If you don’t get it…please read my recent blog because I don’t want to bring my last blog into this blog. However, I do feel I’m a very easy-going person who loves to laugh and interact with other people…but I’m not sitting back and complaining because my more serious blogs aren’t getting the number of comments I see other blogs receiving on a particular day. I chalk it up to life...and move on.

I know there have been blogs written on the topic of “why we blog” and what we personally get out of blogging. So it would stand to reason that if you feel you’re not popular enough and you feel this is a popularity contest…or you’re not happy with the lack of comments your blogs are receiving…perhaps you should button your lip and leave.

I mean it…don’t let the door hit you where the good lord split you. Grow up and realize the blogs are not all about you. Sure you can choose to participate and contribute…but please be an adult about it…check your insecurities at the door…and CHOOSE to enjoy the process. Yes…you can choose to enjoy it…or be trivial and childish about it...and bitch and moan about it.

I realize this is not my usually type of blog…and it may not be popular with the masses…but I felt it needed to be said.

No…correction…I needed to say it because it was bothering me. It’s that simple. If you have something to add…then feel free to do so. If not...please don’t feel pressured into leaving a comment. I too have read blogs and not commented. *Gasp* That is after-all your choice to make.

Is this a bit of a rant? You bet your sweet-ass this is a rant…so deal!

When did Pervia become a popularity contest?
It always was.........people are attention whores.......they like to think they are number one in posting blogs.........me included LOL

or complains about how they weren’t picked in a game-like blog,
Which is why I quit making up games and why I no longer post the week in review........always someone bitching or whining about something............

Hey I kinda like your ranting blogs you should do them more often.........no really........drama gets the comments and views LOL

I haven't gotten to the point I either read them or skip over them........sometimes I dont post comments on someones blog not because they didn't do a good job or that it wasnt interesting I just had nothing to say..........I know hard to believe but thats the truth LOL

Oh yeah, I can totally relate to what you're saying in regards to...

I have seen this happen on here with certain people over the last 3 years.

Yeah, most of my blogs are like this. I try to have fun and enjoy myself with the blogs.

I knew it was a popularity contest from day 1. I am also on yahoo groups and it is the same over there. Big freakin deal all sites are like that. I have seen blogs that were well written on all these sties go by without anyone really taking notice of them though. That was what I was talking about. If it is a new person who wrote a great blog and no one notices I am just hoping it does not discourage them from blogging again. I did notice some of them did not come back. I am not just talking about this sites but all of them in general.
I think you do get pushed into a certain space in people's minds when you tend to blog a certain way. I have said things and could not believe people took it as being a serious statement. I know I joked about not being in a movie game blog one time and people actually thought I was serious. Maybe I should have put I am joking here after I wrote what I did, but thought everyone knew that anyway. No matter what you might have heard I do have a sense of humor. I do just joke and am sarcastic at times but it is all in good fun. Can't believe I am trying to explain this. I think maybe sometimes when people sound like they have hurt feelings maybe people might read too much into it. I am sure that other people might just be joking as well. But in the same respect I have noticed it is always the same people picked for every one of these game blogs. I am not kidding go back and look. I do see a bit of humor in that. Maybe I should have kept my mouth shut and bet on it because I would have won that bet the next time it came up.
Anyway that is what I have to say on the subject. And that are whatever else it takes will buy you a cup of coffee. I don't drink the stuff so I don't have a clue what you have to add to 2 cents to get one.

Tell it how ya think or feel. Everyone should be able to tell it like it is in their mind. I have never complained about the style of blogs. I let it roll and I flow with it. I am just glad to have a place where most let me be who I am and I reciprocate.

I'm sorry, but...who are these people you're speaking of who tend to get 'pissy' over such things? Subtlety for the sake of politeness isnt helping much.

OK, I'm very late to the party... and I don't know precisely what occurred to generate this particular blog. However, it isn't surprising because I have some kind of telfon and kevlar coating adhering to my bubble which protects me from this stuff... meaning negative comments, competition, etc. I'm just sorry you've been subjected to such treatment.

I haven't blogged in sometime because I'm just too busy. However, when I have time I check in to see what's new. Like a bumble bee I buzz over to the blogs that interest me. There are a few regulars I read... if I have something to say I leave a comment. If I don't see anything interesting I move on. I don't blog for the stats as that's not what drives me to write, but I understand there are those that do and that's fine.

I enjoy your blogs... you can tell, I comment on almost every one of them when I'm around. Part of the reason I enjoy them is that they aren't ordinary and you break out of the box often enough to write subject matter with substance. So that's what is important to me... the rest I just don't give credence too.

Keep blogging and say whatever you want to say... and I think the same way for anyone else that blogs. We all benefit from a good rant now and again... so it's your turn and I'm just dandy with it. Keep on truckin', enjoy yourself and poop on anything else!

I certainly understand all of your points. There is nothing I have to add as you and others said it all quite well. Besides, anything I say would be repeating myself.

I just suggest minimizing the emotional investment that is put into contributions. One must allow that anything they post will piss off a few, be misconstrued by several, and bore many. It is what it is, and it is what it ain't.

I try to take the approach of writing a blog to please ME not to please anyone else. I quit being a people pleaser a long time ago. If no one reads or likes what I've writ.. oh well that's their prerogative. I don't care if they do or don't.

Yeah, seriously.. sometimes I'm goofy, sometimes I'm funny, sometimes I'm bitchy and sometimes I'm even serious.. its all about me in my blog.. not about anyone else.

OMG! Kit can rant!!!

Ok..being serious now..and that is hard let me tell you. Ok..When I blog...I usually blog about either what is on my mind at the time, or, I will share a funny email sent. Does it bother me if I get no replies? Well, yeah, I'm only human. But, it doesn't ruin my day. Not all blogs written are going to catch the interest of others. Just because a friend, or someone I have on my "favorites" list blogs, doesn't mean I'm always going to comment on a blog they write. If a blog title catches my attention, I'll read it. Doesn't mean I'm going to leave a comment. Doesn't mean I don't like the blog, just I don't have anything to add to it.

As for popularity contest....I'm not going to speak for the others, but, I've seen it said "attention whores" mentioned, and face it...we are. You put a blog out there, you want attention...otherwise, why bother blogging? Yes, some are more popular than others, can dictate to others whose blogs are better, etc. I can go back and view the first blogs I posted, and they didn't get comments...and if I were the type to let that bother me, hell, I would have never posted another blog. Like I said, I'll blog what's on my mind or a funny I want to share. If some don't like it..fine.
