I'm writing this blog to ask what you think of this woman who sent her adopted child back to Russia, claiming the child was violent & mentally unstable.

In my humble opinion, I think when you adopt a child, it should be like a marriage. For sickness & in health, till death do you part. Seriously, I believe if someone adopts a child, they are in it to win it and that's that. No refunds, no returns. You take that child as it is.

Instead of returning this child, why didn't she seek out help, counciling or a psych evaluation & meds for him? Aren't you supposed to love & help your child? Any real mother can't go back to the hospital and drop off their kids because they are brats now and we can't stand them. So, why should she be allowed to??

Opinions??

I'm just here to stare at your Breast!!!!!

Well, to be Honest.....If the PPL don't want the child..its prolly best for the Child if someone Else raises him!!! I can't Imagine being raised by someone that Didn't Care about me or want me!!!
my 2 cents!

The Russian governmental entities are not always forthcoming with the truth or backgrounds of anything, let alone adoption agencies..
I'm reasonably sure they neglected to inform the adoptive parents
about his previous behavioral problems..
Just another way of getting rid of their "undesirable" citizens
She was correct IMO to send him back..

I gather that this is the story that you are referring to.

Instead of returning this child, why didn't she seek out help, counciling or a psych evaluation & meds for him?

I saw nothing in the article that indicated whether she sought professional help for him or not. Based upon what I read, if true, I'd ship him out. Just like marriage, there is divorce.

I think before adopting a child " Especially from another country " people should spend time with that child and do a background check before Adopting.

Oh Lord, Please forgive me....when I first heard about this, my heart broke for the kid, but unless you have ever seen a psycho kid, you cant believe it. Do I think a "sweet little boy" would set the house on fire...you bet ya!

I wish the world was different, but it isnt, I agree that the Russia gov was getting rid of problem.

I was adopted and they (my parents) didn't get to spens any time with me prior to the adoption. My Mom told me that when I was 13 she wanted to run away. It was regular kid stuff that I was doing to make her crazy. I am lucky she stayed.
Seriously though...I am just not sure what would trigger me to not keep the child without going to the fullest extent of trying to heal his hysteria and figure out a way to heal him. Poor thing.

Like Bunny, I am also an adopted child. In my case, I was three days old. This boy is seven. There is no way of telling what those first six years of his life were (the adoptive US parents had him since last year).

It is a very sad fact that people can become warped and never completely fixed or healed based upon events during critical phases in childhood development. I have heard of similar horror stories, especially with foster children.

There are probably more questions than answers in this story. But the adoptive parents had him for a year. I tend to feel that if they went to the effort and expense to adopt a foreign child and try to make it work for a year, then this action was a last resort, not merely buyer's remorse.

Been hearing bits and pieces of it, but not too interested in hearing about the whole thing. So basically, I have no opinion on this. lol

Ok, being real here, there were weeks when I would have told the damned state to take my own kids.. the ones I gave birth to if I hadn't had a good support system. So yeah, I can totally see her having adopted a problem and wanting to get rid of it. Children are a gift.. but sometimes the gift doesn't fit very well.

I worked with a guy who adopted two boys from Russia. He and his wife were pregnancy-challenged. Nothing they tried worked- so enter the idea of adoption. The whole process took over two years and the paperwork was unbelievable! Once it was done he and his wife flew to Russia and spent a few days with the boys at the orphanage where they had lived up to that point. The boys seemed sweet as could be.
Once they got them home the problems started. Luke, the older of the two, has reactive attachment disorder. It's where a kid cannot form "normal" attachments to the adults in his life. He was also ADHD. On top of that the kid was just extremely violent. He'd kick his new mom or his brother or punch them. Of course my friend got him into therapy immediately, but the family is kind of living on next to nothing considering all the money they spent on the adoption process.
I'm not sure how things all worked out; I changed companies an haven't seen the guy for four years. But he didn't "return" his son. He's a "for better or worse" kind of guy, and you have to admire that. But still? Yikes! I think foreign adoptions are really like the game of Russian Roulette! Or like a box of chocolates.
