Shop Manager Gets Fired via Text Message

Text messages are great for conveying quick, easy information -- movie times, limericks, racy photos. Other topics of discussion, though, are far too delicate for clumsy thumbs, or awkward SMS shorthand. Firing someone is one such topic.

Shane Bolsher, 39, had spent just under a year working as a manager at Fife Fine Foods in Leicestershire, U.K., before getting axed last weekend -- via SMS. As Daily Mail reports, Bolsher received the text over the three-day holiday weekend from his boss, Barry Youell, who wrote: "Dear Shayne it is with regret that i have to give you one weeks notice due to the continueing [sic] drop in trade. i was going to phone you during work hours but got your number after 1700. i will give you a reference if you need one. regards barry."

Has anyone here ever been fired from a job by text or fax?

Nope...been at my job for 15 years.

As for being fired via text message......I don't know...seems like a cowardly way to do it. JMHO

This made the news. I recall posting either a blog about it or commenting on somebody else's blog about it. A week before Christmas, Arrow, a trucking company out of Oklahoma filed bankruptcy. They had required their 700 drivers to have cell phones with texting capability. They notified all of them by texting that they were to take their rigs to the nearest dealership, drop them off, and informed them that their fuel cards were cancelled. They gave them an 800 number to call to get a bus ticket home. Two days before, they issued paychecks and they all bounced.

This is nothing new whatsoever. I have also known people that finished their day at work and went home to find a voice mail on their answering machine from earlier in the day saying that they had been terminated.

I resigned from from my last wage slave job by email. I have been let go by clients by email as well as ended my working relationship with clients via email. In fact, I cut three clients loose in the last two months that way.

It is now the way of the world, get used to it.

Never been fired from a job. Especially in that way.

The worst that has happened to me is. Three of us got layed off at the end of the shift on Christmas Eve. They couldn't have waited till after Xmas instead of ruining our xmas No; They did it that way to get out of giving us our Christmas Bonus. It ruined my Christmas that year. Especially with two small kids at home.

When I lost my job of 13 years the CEO who was my direct boss even though I worked in a store e-mailed the store manager and said you tell her she is fired. He did not have the balls to tell me himself. Typical of his behavior though.

I once got a call from a superior..on Easter Sunday...informing me that my services
were no longer required, and not to report to work the next day. Bitch!
