The only thing I wonder about is why do I as a 36C owner have to pay the same price for a bra of a 44DD owner???? Shouldn't the ones that use the lesser fabric be cut some slack????

Each letter stands for a one inch difference between the size of the bustline and the size of the chest. So someone with a 38 B has a 40 inch bustline.
And from a clothes-maker's perspective DD is the exact same as an E cup. It is simply the manufacturer's choice as to whether they continue advancing in cup sizes or if they double or tripple the letters.
In Japan and other metric countries the letters don't correspond to inches, but centimeters (so their J is the same as our D), which gives a better off-the-shelf measurement.
How do I know all this? Friends who are strippers, and girlfriends who have had G, H or I cups (US) that were natural. At that point it's kind of a necessity to go to a couturier and get properly fitted. A good bra and the right exercises (and not smoking) will keep even the biggest girls from getting saggy.

Oh, and FYI...I did ask the couturier what the largest size she ever did an order for was. It was for a stripper that was before my time, but she was a natural M cup.
