Palins take issue with 'family guy'

Sarah Palin is lashing out at the portrayal of a character with Down syndrome on the Fox animated comedy "Family Guy."

In a Facebook posting headlined "Fox Hollywood — What a Disappointment," the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee and current Fox News contributor said Sunday night's episode felt like "another kick in the gut." Palin's youngest son, Trig, has Down syndrome.

The episode features a character on a date with a girl with Down syndrome. He asks what her parents do. She replies: "My dad's an accountant, and my mom is the former governor of Alaska."

Palin resigned as Alaska governor last summer.

Palin's oldest daughter, Bristol, also was quoted on her mother's Facebook page:

"If the writers of a particularly pathetic cartoon show thought they were being clever in mocking my brother and my family yesterday, they failed. All they proved is that they're heartless jerks."

A "Family Guy" publicist didn't immediately return an e-mail seeking comment.

Apparently now the producer has come forward with a comment that does not include an apology.........he said that the television show of Family Guy was an equal opportunity offender............

So what do you think........if you seen this episode............do you think that Family Guy went to far..........or do you think that Sarah Palin should get tougher skin.................

Personally i think the show is stupid........I find no humor in it.........I think they are nasty and are the most anti politically correct show on TV.....and I think if anyone watches it and it gets to them they need to be watching something else...but in the same consideration..........I think that people should get tougher skin and less offended by this kind of crap.................so what do you think?

Btw this is not a political blog.........I dont want to hear shit for or against Sarah Palin as far as her political life goes...........this is about someone who is in the media getting upset over a direct nastiness to her handicap child........actually the question could and should apply to anyone with a handicap or a child with a handicap..........should you get offended over this episode or not...............

Since it is on Fox and she is now working for Fox, I wondered at first if it was a publicity stunt of some kind.

But they have showed the scene over and over on TV today and the one thing they did do, probably without meaning to, was to show that children with downs syndrome can go to live normal dating lives.... from the part that they showed.

Are you sure that's all I'm allowed to say on the matter?
Oh, okay.... I don't like political blogs anyways.......

Now get some sleep....

I think she needs to get a thicker skin. It is a cartoon. From the few episodes I have had the misfortune of watching they pretty much offend everyone. Get over it is what I say. And I think it could be a publicity stunt as the more she says about it the more people are going to want to watch it when it is shown again.

I have seen the odd start of the shows, and my opinion has never faltered, its too ridiculous to watch and flip over to another channel.

I did happen to see that clip of the episode on the news the last couple of days, and yes, it really was in poor taste.

Btw, I think the show is pretty stupid.

“From its inception, ‘Family Guy’ has used biting satire as the foundation for its humor. The show is an equal-opportunity offender,” MacFarlane said.

What Seth MacFarlane did not say, is when they are going to do N-word
jokes about the Obama family and trash HIS kids.

FAT CHANCE, as it's easier to pick on "f---ing retards" and "special olympics bowlers".
People with down syndrome don't fight back as well.

Hollywood has an axe to grind with anyone that is not a liberal elitist, and goes
out of their way to show how mean spirited and hypocritical they can be. I just
want to know, when has it been 'politically correct' to hate one group, and have
others as sacred cows, or at the very least, off limits?

Uncool, will always be uncool.

I didn't see it but I read about it a couple of days ago. Sarah Palin did not issue a formal statement, but her daughter Bristol did.

I haven't seen it yet but I think it's stupid to be offended by a fucking cartoon. . . I mean really?? You're gonna be offended by a cartoon? That to me shows you have jack shit for self esteem.

Seth McFarlane has been trolling everyone. They make black jokes on there all the time and I don't get offended because I realize that its just a cartoon, and even if I were the type to get offended by everything, it won't solve the issue because what does he care? Those of you who got offended by what he does just played into his hands again.

I saw the show. I thought it was hilarious, as are all the Family Guy shows. Sarah Palin is an idiot and I'm glad it pissed her off.

Those of you who got offended by what he does just played into his hands again.

And that's exactly right. It's kinda like the blogs, don't like it don't read it and in this case, don't like it don't watch it!

On one of the news broadcasts about this issue last night.......there was a supposedly a lady with downs syndrome who commented that she thought the episode was hysterical and that they showed ppl with downs syndrome as being able to live a full productive life and that the character portrayed a downs syndrome woman as sexy and fiesty...........I am not sure if this comment was made to the news program or whether it was put on their facebook account...........but I think that what she said goes with what Luna said.........

I am rather disgusted by the whole show and dont watch it..........but I did notice how much coverage Palin is getting over this.........maybe some of you are right maybe it is an publicity stunt...........how sad if it is.............Thanks for everyones comment.

I realize why some people believe political correctness must be maintained. It would be nice to live in a world where we respect one another and find a positive way to resolve our problems, but as a realist I know that time has not arrived.

We live in a nation that protects freedom of speech which allows for different views and opinions to be expressed. As offended as I may be sometimes, I would not give up that hard won freedom just so my feelings will not be hurt.

I don't watch TV because of the BS the medium serves. I have better things to do with my time. The Palin's time would be better spent paying attention to what goes on in their own family; teaching their children the world is an imperfect place; and giving them skills which gives them self confidence and positive self esteem instead of a victim mentality.

It's only my opinion, but you asked for it.

Palin put herself and her family in the limelight in order to run for vice president. Once in the limelight she proceeded to make herself into a person about whom the jokes are far too easy. Mrs. Palin cries foul at all the jokes pointed at her, but still manages to make a cake of herself in the public eye.

If Family Guy is forced to retract their sharp jab, what next? They do indeed poke a stick at almost everyone in the world, not just one or two .. them, the Simpsons and South Park. It's their style.

Again we are faced with a freedom of speech dilemma. Just because you CAN say what you think, doesn't mean that you should. However, they can say it.

She needs to suck it up and realize that as a public persona she is going to get jabbed.

On another tack, as was proven in a Mencia concert. His Dee-dee-dee routine was loved by those with mental handicaps, and when he found out he was doing his routine in front of a group with disabilities he attempted to avoid those comments. The group gave him grief and said, why can't you make fun of us like you do everyone and everything else?

I saw it....wasn't that funny.
I generally like the show, they target everyone.

In this case it was kind of an oblique reference as the teen girl portrayed simply said her mom was the former Governor of Alaska. Sarah Palin has an infant son with downs syndrome so it wasn't a direct personal attack. They had the right to do it even though it was in bad taste, she has the right to be critical.

So what's the problem?

I didn't see it. I don't watch that show. But, Skwirl said it best:

I've heard it said before, if one is going to get into politics, there is no such thing as a "private life" anymore. And, they do leave themselves open to things like this. So, I say "get a thick skin" shrug it off. Tasteless? Probably. Like I said, I didn't see the episode. But, unless they said the kids' name on there was "Trig" and kept referring to the Palin family by name...they did nothing wrong. Every other politician before and after Sarah Palin put up with cheap shots and jabs...comes with politics. Celebrities get it too.

Being unknown has it's advantages.

Just thought of something else- I remembered awhile ago that they made a porn called Nailin' Palin' and I don't recall her supporters ever making a peep about that.

I'm sure her male supporters made other things, but that's another story...

Family Guy is funny, but it crossed the line big time here. That dialogue was WAY out of place.

Palin needs thicker skin. Incidentally, the New York Times had an an interview with the voice actor, who has down syndrome herself.
