"Idol" producers want to bring in shock jock Howard Stern to fill the empty seat at the judges table when Simon Cowell leaves at the end of this season, according to a Friday report in the New York Post. Stern undoubtedly would provide a nasty foil to Ellen DeGeneres' niceness, and his $100-million-dollar-a-year contract with Sirius XM is up next year. But even fans who adore Simon's sharp tongue might find the controversial radio host too brash for prime time.

I don't watch it now, but this may actually breath new life into the show next year.

Probably be the last season for American Idol if that happens! Of course, Howie will collect on his contract, whether the show is a go or bust- much like Conan O'brien of the Tonight show! So... what does Howie care???

Regardless of the truth of the matter, I feel it would be an OBNOXIOUS choice! ...I thought Simon owned American Idol and it would be over if he left? Maybe he is selling it to the station, but probably will have a say in everything they do. I doubt he would let anyone more obnoxious than he on the show!

J think that would be the beginning of the end unless he learned to turn it down a bit. Simon might have been a little nasty from the few times I watched the show, but he also had more class than Howard Stern.

They are both sarcastic, both have a sense of humor but are both on 2 different ends of the spectrum. I don't think Stern is for TV.

Howard Sterns does not fit the AI image at all and I would probably not continue to be a fan of the show.
I predict the show dies when Simon leaves especially if he brings the Xfactor to the US. I like that formate much better and it will spell death to AI.

Stern does not fit the current demographics of American Idol. If the power brokers in charge know Idol is winding down then they may opt for Stern because of the sensationalism factor which will drive ratings up, but for no more than one season. Otherwise it's not a wise business move from the advertisers stand point. It's all about the money Bay-BAY!!!

You know Shawn, I think your sweet and a cool guy but...Fox news isnt right about everything- no offense. No offense taken. However, when I stated that I heard this off FOX News, I was talking about FOX News covering what's being thrown out there in the entertainment world and what The New York Post had reported in it's Friday edition.

Howard Stern will up the ratings for a while, he's a smart guy, he can tone it down. They can always bleep him if he fucks up. Can't think of anyone better to spice it up at the moment.
