I posted these last year, but new people may not know about these jobs while others may have forgotten. I am also providing info on local community support hotlines.

Below is a link to a temporary position scoring essays for students on behalf of various states. There are centers in Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, minnesota, New Mexico, Ohio, Texas, Virginia, and Washington. Each center hires about 500 people!

The job starts around March 1 and lasts about six to eight weeks usually. You must have a four degree and be able to prove it. They offer a day and evening shift and the pay is over $11.00 per hour. There is also additional performance pay for the top scorers. You must apply online to the link below. BTW, if you refer somebody and they qualify you can get $100.00. To either apply or get the referral form for the money, go to the link below and click on the link below and the location on the map.

2-1-1 a very wonderful resource for finding help with utilities, food banks etc. Just dial 2-1-1. It is funded and overseen by the United Way. It lists resources from organizations, churches, governmental entities, service organizations, etc. As an example, if you are out of work and qualify you can get help in my area on your rent and utilities from the Urban League of Greater Dallas, but who would know about it? Most people at the local state employment commission office don't even know about it. I can say this as I worked there for six years. But you would find it through 2-1-1. If you need help, this is the place to call. If you want the direct line for your area, simply enter your zip code here:

Call the nearest United Way office and they can provide direction for you.

I was a Loaned Executive Officer while working in civil service for three months during the UW campaign in San Antonio,Texas. The 211 program was one of my favorites to talk about to groups large and small because of the services they can put you in touch with that have real value for folks in need.

A green hockey puck for very useful information.

Thanks, WoW. 2-1-1 is an invaluable lifeline. If you have an emergency need or a question about resources available in your area, the people that answer your call are a tremendous font of information.
A couple other ideas regarding employment. 2010 is a census year. The census is taken every 10 years. The U.S. Census Bureau is currently holding exams and hiring part-time Census Takers all over the nation. The pay is about $12/hr. Here's a link to the U.S. Census Bureau where you'll find more specifics.

As we all know, tax time has arrived. This means employment opportunities at the Internal Revenue Service and your state Department of Revenue. Here's a link for IRS Jobs:
http://jobs.irs.gov/seasonal.html

Since each state has their own Revenue Departments, there's not a central web site. Instead, search the internet for "(state name) Department of Revenue". example: "(Florida) Department of Revenue". Good luck!!

Another temp job that's coming to most areas is for the 2010 Census2010 Census Jobs

They are hiring over 1000 people in my county alone (rural area of Missouri) and are paying 11.00 per hour plus mileage here. In the larger metro areas in Mo, such as KC and St. Louis it's more than 15.00 per hour! There's a simple application to fill out and you call the number to set up a test time. It's only 28 questions and you don't have to be a rocket scientist! It will start in most areas in April and last about 10-15 weeks.

I know I was excited about it! Just in time to pay off my tax bill to Uncle Sam!!!!
