DKW and I started going to Renaissance Fairs together last fall. Being the Dark Knight that he is, he wanted us to dress up and get into the total ambiance of these events. Now this is easy for him, his garb is none restricting and he can actually breath in his. Mine on the other hand consists of two rather long skirts that I must wear a hoop under. Then there is a long chemise that becomes both a blouse on top and slip on the bottom. The final piece to hold it all together there is a corset made from two layers of heavy fabric and steel boning.

The tying of said corset has become a matter of great discussion. See DKW thinks I should have a 17 in waist or something close to it. He really puts in back, or should I say his knee, into tying my laces. Yes , breathing is optional.

But the upside to all of this is the extra’s I get to wear. There is so much beautiful jewelry and crowns that it’s hard to pick. I bought a beautiful handmade circlet for myself that is worked bronze and copper. But for Christmas DKW bought me another crown in silver, so I now have two to choose from.

I wanted to do us up as Royalty, you know Lord and Lady something or other. To make me happy he bought me an emerald green and crystal necklace straight out of a queen’s wardrobe. My problem is I want lots of choices the weekends we go play, and my budget just doesn’t allow it. So I’ve taken up making my own. I went through my jewelry chest and found all kinds of necklaces and pendent’s I don’t wear anymore and haven’t in year and put them to pieces. E-bay has lots of choices for beads and pendants most are very inexpensive. I’ve also become very familiar with the bead section of Michael’s and Hobby Lobby. It’s getting to the point I’m always on the outlook for new and different things to turn into garb.
This is my new obsession. I’m spending hours in my workroom making my creations.

So tell me what are your Hobbies, or should I say Obsessions.

On a footnote, for Christmas he bought me a new outfit that isn’t corseted or boned. Now I can breath as we walk around these fairs.

Breathing is a good thing Right?

Obsession can be a good quality. If you're working toward a goal and find it overly interesting it becomes a passion and not an obsession. You can always sell some of the pieces and then you make a profit. I do that with these little hand bags I make.

Sorry, for got to answer the question you placed.

So tell me what are your Hobbies, or should I say Obsessions.

Obsession:
You...
You're my Obsession...

Hobbies...

Finding new ways and diversions to entertain you and make you happy...

Very glad you now share my passion for Ren and a whole lot more.

A good friend of mine got heavily involved in renn. faires. The expense, effort and time to do the costumes was considerable, plus they were uncomfortable and hot in May in Texas. She had to redo one elaborate, heavy, ornate, costume because she stunk it up with perspiration.

A lot of these things are obsessions but people burn out on them. Additionally, the people that you interact with that are also involved have massive egos with many on an OC power trip. That will ultimately take the fun out of it and queer the deal.

Yep, that's me.

MASSIVE power trip.

/sarcasm off

You know...I have been to Ren for over 25 years, and have YET to find ANYone on this so-called power trip you speak of.

And it's no secret the BlueEyes rarely posts blogs at all. MAINLY because of this type of retroactive bullshit like you just commented.

We been online friends a very long time WoW...but at long last you have stepped over the wrong line with your cynical, wet blanket, piss on parades, just plain MEAN horseshit. You can go FUCK yourself.

I love Ren faires and the like.. I really wish you two could come to Faerieworlds this year.. that would be truly amazing!

Let us know the dates. We have talked about that event before, maybe we can make that possible.

And I will rent a truck to get there in, so that we all can fit in our massive power trip egos....

I've never been to a Ren Faire but I've always wanted to go. I think they're amazing. I've only dated one guy that was ever into this and we broke up before I could ever attend one with him. I would love to see some pictures of your gowns Blue Eyes...then I would definitely have a new obsession for sure.

My obsession right now would be anything related to art or paper crafting. Sure I have a biz and my own studio at home...but it goes WAY beyond that. I could seriously look at paper...yanno...different types and textures of paper for hours. Scary huh?

Great blog idea Blue Eyes...leaving you a greenie.

Psst...breathing is a really good thing.

I guess I have been living all these years in the 80's. I'm working on some newer hobbies.

I have been to a few faires in my time. It was not that expensive for me as I made my own costumes and later sold them to someone else. I think the last one was in the early 90s though. I can tell you about corsets. When I was 16 I got a job for the summer giving tours of a Civil War era home in full southern belle costume. If you know anything about the old south, there was a reason they had a fainting couch in those plantation homes.

As for hobbies, I make Native American jewelry and I paint. It is a hobby that I enjoy when I have time. Don't really think I do anything to the point of obsession.

I am merely relaying what has been conveyed to me by long term friends going back over thirty years that were involved heavily into renn faires and I framed my comment that way. I have no first hand knowledge, but I trust their words. I was just relaying what was intimated to me. Chill dude.

Nice save. Not working, though.

So the words of ONE individual make it gospel. Damn, I didn't know you knew Jeebus personally. And a woman, no less. News flash.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I believe your fuckin attitude has pissed off pretty much EVERYONE who has been here very long at one time or another. Took forever to get around to me, but you managed it. Congrats.

Chill this: Fuck you and your fuckin "LAME" mantras, your bitch blogs about copy and paste ( or repeat ) jokes, your blog dictatorship and chastising of others to just "chill" just go with the flow or just be quiet. You're a fuckin hypocrite, you have done the SAME damn things yourself.

My favorite is the one comment you had made on a blog awhile back. Something to the nature of "I don't feel I need to post original or entertaining stuff, I get paid for my work."
News flash, genius. NO ONE HERE GETS PAID EITHER. So take what you get around here. I personally feel pretty good knowing it's coming from common everyday people sharing their thoughts, minds and hearts. EVEN if it's a copy/paste joke, because they cared enough to think it was funny and wanted to share it with everyone else. Not EVERYONE has read every fucking joke ever written. Not even you.

I USED to like you a lot. WHEN you were just a blunt, cutting edge old codger personae. You might bite a little bit, but you were making points or giving whatever was due, in your own personal style. But in the past several months, it has become darker, harder and most definitely MEANER in every comment you make, JUST because it wasn't your cup of tea. And you most DEFINITELY go out of your way to make EVERYBODY fuckin well know it, too.

Dollars worth of free advice: If more than 5 people take issue with a character trait, then it's time to re-evaluate ones self. And I would not hesitate to say you have pissed off more than 30 people with this particular path.

Well, I'm done blog jacking here. you decide to go back to the old codger I USED to know, we'll talk. Till then...CHILL this....

P.S> I am NO child, telling me to chill like one just pisses me off all the more.

I will say a couple of things on both the original subject and the hijack subject.

I love the Idea of Ren Faires, that is thing I have on my list of things I want to do. I will go to one or more someday, either obsessively or casually, and even casually it would with a great deal of passion. Life is too short to do any thing lukewarm.

And as to WoW, I too have observed that WoW has become lukewarm in his life's passions and seems to think the rest of the world should join him. He does seem to get unnecessary satisfaction at the expense of others with his fucked up attititude. He has allowed himself to get old. And what is worse.. HE IS ALWAYS HERE!! .

I concur.

Scarborough Fair is the one I was referring to. The way it is now and the way it was in the eighties may be different.

They rent out spaces for vendors and they hire entertainers like jugglers and jousters. What my friends did, and that is several people (friends plural), was be unpaid volunteers. They cleaned up the grounds, made repairs on the buildings when it was closed, etc.

They got to march in costume in the procession at the daily opening and closing. and be chess pieces in a huge chess game. They also got free admission.

They also served on a form of a board for projects including volunteer get togethers. This included seeking sponsors, donations and fund raising (even though it is a business) for building supplies, infrastructure improvements and other things. In a way it is similar to how churches operate on their projects. It was among the volunteers and the volunteer leadership on these projects where the egos clashed.

Yes, breathing is a good thing. It also makes it easier for you to gasp when you see something or a certain someone that takes your breathe away.......

Ann, I would love to see pics of both your gowns and your jewelry that you are making.

You bad, bad person................. sometimes bad isn't bad at all.
And she definitely doesn't seem to mind being corrupted.......

Great blog, kudos.

A friend of mine in Houston is a face painter. She face painted at Ren Fairs for over ten years and loved it! Her costumes were beautiful. She has an hour glass figure which filled them out very well.

Photography was a casual hobby for years. A year ago it became an obsession and is now a passion! I'm beginning to get some recognition from my work and people are paying me to do what I love.

My obsession right now would be anything related to art or paper crafting. Sure I have a biz and my own studio at home...but it goes WAY beyond that. I could seriously look at paper...yanno...different types and textures of paper for hours. Scary huh?
I'm a designer too. In my book you can never-ever have too much paper! I get giddy working with southeast Asian papers... especially origami and mulberry papers. I'm going to make my own handmade paper someday soon.

A piece of green jade rolling your way.

Not sure how I missed this blog...........but better late than never........

I have been to a Renaissance Fair one time and I would love to go back. I wasn't dressed in costume but I was thoroughly amazed at the gorgeous outfits that the people wore............and I met a lot of wonderful people there........I enjoyed it a lot.......so I can see where you and DK would love something like that.......

here we have the the White Oak Society that has the Rendezvous Days that is a weekend of going back into time to the fur trader days........

The year is 1798 and the fur trade is booming! Our fur trading post is located near the upper reaches of the Mississippi River in the north woods. In another 60 years this will become the state of Minnesota. But for now, enter and join a hearty group of gentlemen and voyageurs. They are talking about the rendezvous. Later they may talk about the fur trade, sing some songs, perhaps talk about the winter to come. It is a time of adventure, challenge, dangers, and rewards!
this is from their website click here for more information

It is really interesting to go there and see the camps, black smiths, listen to the music.......eat the food from that time..........yes they have vendors......but its not like a flea market where you can sell shit.........it has to be stuff made from that era.......the jewelry and furs and stuff like that is totally awesome......They are dressed in period costumes and again like the Renaissance Fair, they are the nicest people.......probably a lot due to just enjoying taking part in a time of history that they are interested in...............

I hope you and DKW continue doing this and it continues being fun..........Im not really the type to get dressed up and take part in it...........but i sure enjoy visiting it and looking and enjoying the time i spend there...........

Appreciate that, Bro.

And to clarify...no one expects anyone TO dress up. Usually what happens is you see everyone having SO much fun at it, the next time or next year it comes around, you can't help but catch yourself window shopping and seeing just what's around to wear.

It's a LOT of fun in street clothes, too. Makes you a target to get VERY good naturedly "messed around with" by the workers. Especially if you wear shorts...then it's
"Oh, my goodly heavenz...they are running around in their UNDERWEAR!!!! "
And stuff like that.

We took some newcomer friends to the TRF (Texas Renaissance Festival ) one of the biggest in the country for their first experience. My guy friend had worn mirrored sunglasses. Before he knew it, this old couple in garb strolled up, she started adjusting her hair, using his glasses. Her husband said "What are ye doing? He doesn't have a mirror on his face." She said "Yes he bloody well does." He said "What do you know, he does, he does..." So...he starts adjusting HIS hair too....
