I just read a blog on supporting one another....I had been debating on whether or not to post this, so I just made up my mind to do so. As many of you know, my Dad had to have hip surgery on Christmas night. Well, the folowing Tuesday, he was moved to a nursing/rehab facility. That night, my Mom gets a call at 4 in the morning...my Dad fell out of the bed. He was confused and tried to get up. So Mom met them at the hospital, Dad got x-rays, they sent him back to the facility. Mom asked them for an alarm to be put on Dads bed, so they would know next time, right? Well, they had one,"but it was so loud!", as my Mom was told! Hello! It's supposed to be loud! That's the point!
A week later, the Dr. calledmy mother and told her that my Dad had a new hairline fracture on the same hip. Meanwhile, he had been having PT the whole time. So they transferred him to another hospital for another surgeon to look at my Dad and see what he could do. This surgeon is rated 3rd in the nation for this type of surgery. They thought he might have to have a partial hip replacement, but that wasn't the case. They put in a plate to help the hip heal together faster.
So there ya go, my friends. That is the latest on my Dad. I listen to him in the background, sounding weak and confused. Not like my Daddy at all. And my Mom is so tired and stressed. My heart is breaking for them. And there really isn't anything that I can do. He will be in therapy for at least 6-8 weeks. After that, who knows?
Thank you, my friends for listening to me....and the support that you have shown to me. Here is my hand....

I am go glad you posted an update on your Dad. It does sound like he is on the right path to recovery, even a slow one.
If your Mom is visiting him each day tell her to take a day off from visiting the hospital and to start taking at least one day, maybe 2, each week that she does not visit. She should tell your Dad "I will not be visiting on such and such and day" and believe me he will get used to it.
I have been down this road SO many times over the last 11 years that I know I have to take a break from the daily trips just to save my sanity and so does your Mom.
I wish them the best.

You've made it through an obstacle when your dad was sent to a top surgeon. Even though it will be a very long and hard road...I think you've turned the corner. Hopefully, things will start looking up. I wish you and your family all the best and you will continue to be in my thoughts. Please keep us updated. ((((Hugs))))

We are a group of pretty good eggs when you get right down to it. I will hold you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.
Please listen to DS's advice, it is essential to take care of yourself especially when you are in for a marathon and not a sprint. It can save your life... and you are needed by your dad more than ever. A greenie is coming your way.
