I love having my own house. No landlord to answer too, no one to answer to, can come and go as I please, and the peacefulness of not having to listen to arguments and such. BUT..(yeah, there is always a "but" ) along with that, comes the fun of maintenance. I noticed a couple of weeks ago, that my entry door wasn't quite latching when I closed it. And, as it goes, as time has gone on....it's gotten worse. I got home today from paying bills, and saw that what I thought was a closed door when I left, was not. No, it wasn't hanging open, but, it sure wasn't latched tight either.
Now, with 5 dogs in the house, a b&e I'm not too concerned with. As I've said before, "anyone foolish enough to attempt a break in after hearing them bark DESERVES what they get if they step one foot inside". For those who don't know, I've got a German Shepherd, and 4 lab/shepherd mixes..and they all have quite a loud bark. So, while not overly concerned about a break in, I admit to a concern for a "break out". If that door were to pop back open enough for one of my dogs to get curious and nose around it and nudge it even further, it wouldn't take much to jump against the storm door and open it. And my dogs go NUTS when they see other critters running around outside. And I really don't want to be coming home from work and finding my dogs running around the neighborhood.
So...today, it took some doing, but, I found the right sized pieces of scrap wood, and new strike plate, and now my door latches. Of course, in doing this, I've discovered that this spring/summer would be a good time to totally replace the door frame. The previous owners must have been not so smart because they used plaster in place of wood in part of the door frame, and not even the good stuff as it's crumbling and falling out. So, I've added replace door frame to my "list" of projects for Spring/Summer.
Sometimes I think to myself when I no longer have this "pack", I'm going to sell this house and get a damn apartment and let a landlord deal with maintenance.......but......who wants to deal with a landlord?

I have come to learn over time as a home owner that the house is often a people owner.

Obviously I'd rather deal with a landlord...let him have the hassles. My current landlord is a good guy....his sweetie is a pain but I can deal with that. Actually other that the last landlord I had who in the end fucked all over me...I've had some damn good landlords...the best of the best.
Now back to decorating. I hot glued a ribbon on the wall to look like a frame. I burned my thumb and glued two fingers together....not bad.....

I'm thinking of painting in my kitchen, bedroom, and main bathroom. Going to be fun choosing colors.
I like colors that will make me feel happy, warm, and relaxed.

When it gets warmer I have to crawl up on the roof and patch some holes where the water is coming in. That is going to be fun, did I mention I do not like heights?

I get up on the roof in the Spring to get all the dead leaves and other gunk out of the gutters. Not fun.

One of the best feelings in the world, is when you get your house paid off. Then, most repairs are WAY cheaper than rent. Although taxes and insurance will still piss ya off

Lady..I don't know how you can deal with 5 doggies inside...my one is a plenty for me!!! He's worse than a shaddow... I'm with ya on renting.....I'm really considering selling and then renting!!! If I can get a Long lease...that is...... BTW...when you replace the Door frame... check out the complete pkg. its much easier to replace all of it than just the frame..and you can get some good deals on "Pre-Hung" doors...I have seen some that were just a few bucks more than the frame!
