the more you think of it, the more disturbing it becomes ,huh.
no-one has the right to 'own' another person or treat them as a slave.
I'm not exactly a religious person but what-ever happened to treating others the way you expect to be treated.
the same cultures are doing the same thing here in Australia too.

So much fail in this blog, I wouldn't know where to start.

But lets conveniently leave out the true meaning of Jihad, make all Muslims out to be the bad guy, and yes- let's keep thinking that Christians aren't fanatical in their devotion and that all Muslims follow the Sharia Law.

Ignorance begets ignorance, which in return begets hate. This email forward is proof of that. If being ignorant about them is denoting that the "turrrists wun", then, they sure did if they can still keep most Americans panicky and afraid.

Also, I don't care for any of the tired dichotomy: "America, love it or leave it"- whatever.

I got about halfway through and then I just had to stop reading.

So...let's attack a religion that is not necessarily what we believe in? There are flaws in every religion....and yep even Christianity. I have seen more hypocrites in the Christian religion than any other.

I'm just going to leave it at that.

Does anyone ever stop to CHECK THE FACTS before they post things to the internet? I am sick of people posting things that they know nothing about to the internet because they want to stir up hate against a group of people, There are good and bad in every religion, and religious nutcases in EVERY religion that take things to the extreme without any common sense. This type of post promotes misunderstanding and the us and them concept. I. for one. am sick of it..

I'm going to agree with Luna, WoW, and RJ on this.

Some fact checking should be done. I clean rooms at a hotel, and since Dearborn isn't that far away from where I work, we get Muslims staying there quite a bit, and those who I've met and talked to are very nice, and very decent people who are hurt by this bashing of Islam since 9/11. What this post represents is those who are extremists, which a actually a small number compared to the population of those who practice Islam. Most are peaceful and friendly people.

But, there are those who will always bash Islam, Christianity, Buddhists, Wiccan's, ect...Those are the ones who are small minded and don't want to learn about others beliefs. They are more content to spread hate and misunderstanding. Not accusing the poster here....just, I don't know, wish people would chose to learn more about things before bashing them.

I don't think all muslims are extremists, but Alan has a point.
There are still many Islamic countries that have institionalized Islam into the government and carry out inhumane punishments for woman in particular under Sharia law: death by stoning, severe flogging, amputations, genital mutilation, etc. Although there is disagreement amongst muslim scholars whether or not the Qur'an dictates Sharia law, it was certainly inspired from the book. I am not an expert on the subject so I can't claim to know whether the interpretion of Sharia law is correct or not. But it cannot be disputed that Islamic woman in particular are repressed in several Middle eastern countries like Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan.

Many of them are forced to wear veils and cover their bodies completely or risk severe bodily punishment. Adultery or pregnancy out of wedlock can lead to death by stoning, even in cases of rape. There is also forced marriage/childhood marriage...Female testimony in court counts for half that of a man's, thus two women are needed to counter the claims of a man....Woman also only receive half the inheritence her brothers receive when their parents pass away. Even if they are the only inheritors, they are still denied the full inheritance! The list goes on and on, but i think you get my point.

While I don't think Islam as a religion is evil, extremist interpretations of the Qur'an/Sharia law lead to the barbaric oppression of Islamic women. Although this isn't a reality for Islamic women in the Western world, there are many Islamic countries that still engage in these brutal practices derived from laws reflecting the values of the world in the 7th century.

Leonidas100

Jan 13 @ 3:52PM
And this applies to Chrisianity as well...I think extremist or literal interpretions of the bible can be dangerous in today's world since it reflects a value system from 2,000 years ago. If the Qur'an and bible are interpreted from a 21st century context, the overall messages/ themes gleaned from both books can be very valuable.

Jan 13 @ 6:14PM

I did happen to spend approximately an hour reading on Sharian Law, widely interpreted as Islamic law, which by the way is wrong. There for a number of sources that I checked. Sharia in Arabic roughly means "way", or "guidelines", but the term is considered redundant and not somebodies laws.
Darwish believes Islam is an authoritarian ideology that is attempting to impose on the world the norms of seventh-century culture of the Arabian Peninsula. She writes that Islam is a "sinister force" that must be resisted and contained. She remarks that it is hard to "comprehend that an entire religion and its culture believes God orders the killing of unbelievers." She accuses Islam and Sharia of forming a retrograde ideology that adds greatly to the world's stock of misery.[11]

She claims the Qur'an is a text that is "violent, incendiary, and disrespectful" and says that barbarities such as brutalization of women, the persecution of homosexuals, honor killings, the beheading of apostates and the stoning of adulterers come directly out of the Qur'an.[11]
Darwish is a strong supporter of Israel, and has founded the group "Arabs for Israel". She is the author of two books: "Now They Call Me Infidel" and
"Cruel and Unusual Punishment", both discussing homan rights, specifically woman's human rights.
Now the subject of Sharia or Sharian Law is controversial and subject to a wide variety of interpretations and whether or not it has any relevance in the Qur'an, although it is specifically mentioned in the text. There is sufficent evidence that most practices, traditions and injustices are indeed in place in the Middle East. While the word Sharia does appear in the Qur'an is it the sole premise or guidelines for the Muslim bible? No, it is not. All aspects of Sharia are covered in the Qur'an as a Muslim way of life. Most Muslims misunderstand it's relevance. Some associate it with Medieval times, the amputation of limbs, lashings, stonings and more draconian aspects of life. Other Muslims see it as a source of enlightenment and a nurturing of humanity.

Now to the comments. Merely posting a link to a site which I'm sure supports the commentators opinion is an example of indifference and a lack of common sense which is the safe harbor of ignorance and an excuse for intellectual laziness. They don't know the truth--their common sense has spared them the effort of investigation of thought. This I know to be a fact concerning one of our posters.

Now to a few comments:
I got about halfway through and then I just had to stop reading
Halfway through......yes well, that about sums it up

PLEASE DON'T READ AND DON'T PASS THIS ON

More extensive thought....please read the last paragraph above in my blog.

Jihad by definition is "struggle" of Arabic derivation and is commonly used to mean 'holy war' on the behalf of Islam.
Now I think anyone who watches the TV, or listens to the radio, or reads a newspaper is aware of the Islamist radical terrorists, possibly with the exception of Obama. The threats are real as are the treatment of woman. To say that this isn't something that should concern us and is only relevant in the 'forseeable future' is certainly cause for this individual to be afraid and panicky, if not openly outraged that it is so casually dismissed by commenting with a yawn. Seems most liberal Americans are only concerned when something happens on American soil, but can ignore it when someone like Alan trys to make us aware that it's happening as we speak. I don't see any bashing in this blog, nor any reason to casually dismiss it. And I'm not surprised that rather then react to the information and the issue, those posting turned it into a comparison of Islam versus other religions. But then I don't understand most of their rationality. Again, don't shoot the messenger!
drcocktail87

Jan 14 @ 1:43AM
Good blog btw. The only thing I might suggest is that you should add your own commentary explaining the blog. Most of the commentators don't read lengthy blogs, it's a bit taxing for them especially after reading it and then having to actually think about what to say. And your blog is topical and relevant to the real world, so blogs such as yours aren't well received since the next blog is probably about scavenger hunts, a joke, fat ladies in thongs or bubble wrap. Sadly they get about half way through and just say the first thing that comes to mind. Keep blogging, who knows, it may get them to think.
dmbchick420

Jan 14 @ 8:38AM
Yanno....I might actually listen to your opinion Dr. Cocktail if you weren't so rude about it, but I don't listen to people's opinions when they have to be condescending about it all the time, so your opinion means about as much to me as my opinion means to you.

I purposely told the author I didn't read it all the way and I never told him it was or wasn't true. I merely stated that all religions have flaws and that was it. Period. Now I'm a retard because I didn't read some urban legend that has been floating around the net. Whatever you say there.....you know everything, so I think we should just let you and you alone comment on ALL the blogs from now because you are the end all be all right?

Now I'm done.

An urban legend, urban myth, urban tale, or, more accurately, a contemporary legend, is a form of modern folklore consisting of apocryphal stories that those who tell them believe to be true. Like all folklore, contemporary legends are not necessarily false, but they are often distorted, exaggerated, or sensationalized over time.

Despite its name, a typical urban legend does not usually originate in an urban area. Rather, the term is used to differentiate modern legend from traditional folklore in preindustrial times. For this reason, sociologists and folklorists prefer the term contemporary legend.

Urban legends are sometimes repeated in news stories and, in recent years, distributed by e-mail. People frequently allege that such tales happened to a "friend of a friend"—so often, in fact, that "friend of a friend," ("FOAF") has become a commonly used term when recounting this type of story.

Some urban legends have passed through the years with only minor changes to suit regional variations. One example is the story of a woman killed by spiders nesting in her elaborate hairdo. More recent legends tend to reflect modern circumstances, like the story of people ambushed, anesthetized, and waking up minus one kidney, which was surgically removed for transplantation (a story which folklorists refer to as "The Kidney Heist".)

Alan, I'm a bit disconcerted that anyone would dismiss the article as an Urban Legend. It's extremely distressing that the reality of the atrocities can so thoughtlessly be reduced to myth, or Mrs. Darwish comments in her blog misread as coming from a book she didn't write. It would seem the reference to Snopes, caused another to take it as a definitive source. Once again the safe harbor.

Shia Islam, is the second largest denomination of Islam, after Sunni Islam. The followers of Shia Islam are called Shi'as but are also known as Shiites or Shi'ites.
Just trying to get back on topic. The article concerns Sharia, or Sharian Law in the context of it's relevance to the Qur'an.

ACT!

The article by Nonie Darwish below provides great insight into the “Muslim world.” The iron grip of Islam on society is not maintained through love, understanding, and tolerance, but through fear, oppression and violence. “Apostates” face death; women who do not submit face physical violence and even death; non-Muslims face persecution and even death.

This world of Islamic shariah has come to America. You may recall the video we emailed a few weeks ago, where the Muslim “security guards,” verbally and physically assaulted a handful of Christians at a festival in Dearborn, Michigan. You may recall the hate and anger espoused by pro-Palestinian demonstrators here in America in December and January, who were reacting to Israel’s military responses to the missile attacks from the Gaza Strip.

These are just two examples of the fear, oppression and violence that are part and parcel of radical Islam. Even some Muslims are awakening to the brutal reality of the religion they thought they knew. As Ms. Darwish notes:

“There are daily news reports of heart-broken Muslims who say they cannot believe what is written in Muslim scriptures and say that Muslims have been living under the greatest lie in human history.”

To those that comment on a blog on a sex site implying that commentors are somehow lacking intellect because they refuse to read and properly comment on politics and religion... well you speak volumes about yourself.

This is not a political or religious soapbox, and frankly, no one cares.

I believe the post was meant more as a pasing thought, at least I hope so, and I doubt they were expecting the members here to contribute professional opinions.

Expressing your opinions is one thing, and certainly your 1st amendment right. However, attacking others because of theirs, or lack of is certainly and infringement upon their rights. Disagreeing is perfectly ok, but you cross the line whan you tell others how they must form their opinions.

Now for my opinion. I don't care. I dare anyone to prove me wrong.

Joys of Muslim Women
Comment: This is an article that my father sent me in an email this morning. This is scary!

Joys of Muslim Women
by Nonie Darwish

In the Muslim faith a Muslim man can marry a child as young as 1 year old and have sexual intimacy with this child, consummating the marriage by 9.

The dowry is given to the family in exchange for the woman (who becomes his slave) and for the purchase of the private parts of the woman, to use her as a toy.

Even though a woman is abused she can not obtain a divorce.

To prove rape, the woman must have (4) male witnesses.

Often after a woman has been raped, she is returned to her family and the family must return the dowry. The family has the right to execute her (an honor killing) to restore the honor of the family. Husbands can beat their wives 'at will' and he does not have to say why he has beaten her.

The husband is permitted to have (4 wives) and a temporary wife for an hour (prostitute) at his discretion.

The Shariah Muslim law controls the private as well as the public life of the woman.

In the West World (America) Muslim men are starting to demand Shariah Law so the wife can not obtain a divorce and he can have full and complete control of her. It is amazing and alarming how many of our sisters and daughters attending American Universities are now marrying Muslim men and submitting themselves and their children unsuspectingly to the Shariah law.

By passing this on, enlightened American women may avoid becoming a slave under Shariah Law.

Author and lecturer Nonie Darwish says the goal of radical Islamists is to impose Shariah law on the world, ripping Western law and liberty in two.

Darwish was born in Cairo and spent her childhood in Egypt and Gaza before emigrating to America in 1978, When she was eight years old, her father died while leading covert attacks on Israel He was a high-ranking Egyptian military officer stationed with his family in Gaza .

When he died, he was considered a "shahid," a martyr for jihad. His posthumous status earned Nonie and her family an elevated position in Muslim society.

But Darwish developed a skeptical eye at an early age. She questioned her own Muslim culture and upbringing. She converted to Christianity after hearing a Christian preacher on television.

In her latest book, Darwish warns about creeping Sharia law - what it is, what it means, and how it is manifested in Islamic countries.

For the West, she says radical Islamists are working to impose Sharia on the world. If that happens, Western civilization will be destroyed.

In twenty years there will be enough Muslim voters in the U.S. to elect the President! I think everyone in the U.S. should be required to read this, but with the ACLU, there is no way this will be widely publicized, unless each of us sends it on!

Suffice it to say that the article is real and not a myth, unless of course you believe Nonie Darwish is an urban Legend....lol.

In researching this I found Nonie Darwish is not the writer of Joys of Muslim Women. It's an anonymous letter. And most of it is misleading and untrue apparently.

An NRO Q&A

Egyptian-born Nonie Darwish is “too controversial” to speak at Brown University, where her invitation to speak was just taken back. The title of her new book about says it all Now They Call Me Infidel: Why I Renounced Jihad for America, Israel, and the War on Terror . Good luck with that one. Here, where we’ve been attacked by jihadists, we don’t like to hear about the enemy we face.

Well, here on National Review Online, anyway, we’d like to hear from Darwish. What she has to say is important to dealing with the threat we face. She recently took some questions from NRO editor Kathryn Lopez.

Kathryn Jean Lopez: What were you taught about Jews?

Nonie Darwish: As Arab children, we were taught about Jews in schools, at home, in the media, at mosque sermons, and by politicians. No one can escape the overwhelming anti-Semitic propaganda and the venomous hatred that my culture of origin advocated against Jews. In Gaza elementary schools I learned hate, vengeance, and retaliation. Peace was never an option; it was considered a sign of defeat and weakness. Those who wanted peace and compromise were called traitors and cowards. When I asked “Why do we hate Jews?,” the answer was “Aren’t you a Muslim?” We were told “Don't take candy from strangers since it could be a Jew trying to poison you” or that Israeli soldiers would kill pregnant Arab women just for fun, place bets on whether she was carrying a boy or a girl, and cut her open to see who won the bet. My classmates would cry while reciting jihadist poetry daily, wishing to die as martyrs.

Lopez: How did you manage to eventually come to be part of the Zionist conspiracy?

Darwish: It took me many years to change, evolve, and realize that I was indoctrinated with a lot of propaganda and outright lies about Israel. I owe my change to America. I appreciated the tolerance, respect for minorities and equality under the law that America stands for. When I heard church and synagogue sermons I realized how different the message was from the hate speech, cursing, and incitement advocated in many mosques across the world. Many of us who immigrated to America thought we had escaped jihad, hateful propaganda, intimidation, and mind control, but we found that even in America, there are powerful radical Muslim forces who are trying to silence us. For the sin of criticizing terrorism — not Islam, just terrorism — we are threatened. Terrorism is like the elephant in the room that no one is supposed to talk about, especially if you are an Arab American. But when 9/11 happened, it was no longer about me or my culture of origin; it is about the safety and security of the country that I now call home; America. When I pledged allegiance to the flag of the United States I took this pledge to heart and I decided to speak out of respect for the 3,000 Americans who died on that day. I speak out of empathy for Israel; a country that has lived under severe terrorism, boycott, and war. Israel deserves our respect and not our hatred. I also speak out of love for my culture of origin in desperate need for reformation. I speak out. That is why to radical Muslims, I am now part of the Zionist conspiracy.

Lopez: When did you know there was something off about how you were raised?

Darwish: Several incidents during my childhood led me to question my beliefs and upbringing.

As Arab children we were not allowed to ask why or question any of the propaganda we were given. After my father’s death President Nasser vowed that all of Egypt would take revenge. My siblings and I were asked by top government officials: “Which one of you will avenge your father’s blood by killing Jews.” We were speechless; they made us feel that if we really loved our father we would kill Jews. I also witnessed what happens to the families of martyrs when I saw my mother suffer after my father’s death. My mother had to face life alone with five children in a culture that gave respect only to families headed by a man. Arab women are expected to sacrifice their family by giving up their husbands and sons to martyrdom. As a young woman, I visited a Christian friend in Cairo during the Friday prayers, and we both heard the verbal attacks on Christians and Jews from the loudspeakers outside the mosque. We heard “May God destroy the infidels and the Jews, the enemies of God. We are not to befriend them or make treaties with them.” We also heard the worshipers respond “Amen.” I heard such prayers many times before; and believe it or not if you grow up with prayers like that, it can sound and feel normal. My friend looked scared, and I was ashamed. It is not easy to be an infidel living in Muslim land. That was when I first realized that something was very wrong in the way my religion was taught and practiced.

Another incident that happened about eleven years ago also changed my outlook on Israel. My brother suffered a stroke while in Gaza, and was not expected to survive. The Egyptians around him asked, Where shall we take him now? Cairo hospitals or Hadassah hospital? They all agreed: If you want him to live, take him to Hadassah in Jerusalem! Why would they choose to get treatment in the hospitals of people they despise and call apes, pigs and enemies of God? In time of crisis Arabs trust Jews!
Lopez: Are the majority of Muslim women oppressed? What can be done for them?

Darwish: The majority of Muslim women are oppressed and that is due to Islamic sharia law which severely discriminates against women. Even the most educated and powerful Muslim women are faced with a legal system that is very discriminatory against women. Muslim women start the marital relationship from a weaker position. The Muslim marriage contract itself is unfair to women because Muslim men can add three more wives if he wishes. That changes the dynamic of husband/wife relationship even if a Muslim man does not exercise this right. Polygamy has a devastating impact on families. There are chronic social ills and tragedies stemming from this single right.

The court system is designed to oppress women, without a doubt.

Lopez: How prevalent is “honor killing”?

Darwish: According to Islamic law sex outside marriage is prohibited and the penalty for that is often death. The woman is always to blame because she is regarded as the source of the seduction. Muslim men’s honor is dependent on their women’s sexual purity. It does not matter how honorable the character of the Muslim man; but

Alot of people need to stop and think right now, because we allready have a non-Christian President trying to take away our choices such as:

Freedom to choose medical insurance - under the new proposed insurance of the government we will be forced to get their policy or pay penalty fines.

Freedom to gun ownership - they are trying to remove the choice of the Right to keep asnd bear arms.

theese are just a few items planned. What will be next?

While I agree with your sentiments H20, we're getting off topic here, much the same as the Snopes reference. The blog concerns another blog written by Nonie Darwish, not a supposed urban legend, or claims it was a book, or religion bashing.
