Over the past few years this was the hot topic across the country. This year it's not too bad in regards to employees having to be politically correct by saying "Happy Holidays!". What got me thinking on this was reading some of the blogs over the past few days with people wishing other a happy holiday, or a Merry Christmas. I do tend to pay attention to that especially after the last few years year. I will say that my preference is Merry Christmas and I will say that when leaving a store after the greeter at the door will also say Merry Christmas.

I would like to know from some of you that use the happy holiday greeting is do you do that on purpose because you hate using the word Christmas, or just wanted to be p.c. and not offend anyone, or do you just say it without any cause whatsoever and it's really a no big deal to you?

This is somewhat of a repost since I did re-edit this some from the orginal blog I posted on Dec. 22, 2006. I usually repost this same blog around this time of year, mainly for the newbies.

Do I ever post blogs everyday on here anymore? Thought it was an interesting enough blog to repost. Besides, aren't we all looking for attention when we blog anyway?

Happy Holidays is all fine and well but I prefer MERRY CHRISTMAS and if anyone is offended by my saying that, they can kiss my lily white ass! And fucking sue me too! Why should I change what I say because 1 or 2 people might be offended!??!?!? Why do those 1 or 2 have the right to sue for their beliefs??????? Why can't we start suing that 1 or 2 assholes for infringing on the rights of those who DO want to say MERRY CHRISTMAS!??!?!??!?!??!?!? Pisses me right off!!!!!!!

I do not say Merry Christmas to people because not everyone celebrates that holiday. I celebrate Yule and every year I just smile and say Merry Christmas back to people becauses they have no way of knowing they have the wrong holiday when they say that to me. But I can't say I am thrilled about it. Look at all the different religions we have in our country. Happy holidays is generic enough to cover whatever they might be celebrating at that time of year. Why would you say Merry Christmas to someone who might be of another faith?

I've always said "Merry Christmas". I'm sorry, but, changing the wording doesn't change the holiday.

All my life I've said Merry Christmas and I will continue to say Merry Christmas! And too bad for the 'politically correct' people! If they don't like it, then take a hike!!!

A greeting is a gretting is a greeting no matter what the actual words are.

Whichever way or holiday is referenced by it the meaning of the offered phrase is always well intentioned and meant to convey warm fuzzies from the giver to the recipient.

Just accept graciously in the intended spirit and offer one back that makes you comfortable. It is up to the receiver to take it in the spirit it was offered back.

Geez do ya know how much effort it took to write that all fluffy enough not to hurt anyones feelers. Political Correctness is the root of all misinterpretation!

Sorry but Yule, Christmas, and Hanukkah are not renaming of the same holiday. They are three very seperate holidays from three very different religions.

Yule- Pagans

Christmas - Christians

Hanukkah- Jewish.

Yule comes at the Winter Solstice

Christmas is celebrated by Christians to celebrate the birth of Christ

Hanukkah is celebrated by Jews for the miracle of the temple when the oil burned for 8 days instead of one.

None of these holidays have anything to do with each other and are not celebrated by the other religions mentioned here. The only way that Yule got involved with Christmas was when a pope decided to move Christ's birthday from April when it is believed he was really born to December in an effort to wipe out Paganism in Europe.

Whether this is a re-post or an updated post is not the issue for me. I believe we should be aware of and respect the increasing cultural diversity in our country as well as others around the world. However, I do not think that means anyone should deny their own culture nor dilute it by adopting another culture's preferences just for the sake of political correctness.

I am a U.S. citizen and in my family we say Merry Christmas. However, when I lived in Great Britain the majority of people wished one another a Happy Christmas. When I lived in Singapore I respected Chinese, Malaysian and Eastern Indian holidays... they invariably wished me a Happy or Merry Christmas while they were agnostic, atheist, Muslim, Catholic, Taoist, Buddhist, Hindu, etc. I did my best to wish them well whatever holiday it may be... but when in doubt a smile and 'peace to you' was appreciated.

What I consider most important is to learn about as many cultures as possible, their holidays and their traditions... and share them with one another in the spirit of the season which wishes everyone a happy, peaceful and loving time with family and friends.

Part of this stems from... when in Rome do as the Romans, but that doesn't mean forsaking your beliefs. We can all wish one another well in whatever culture we come from in whatever manner works best... it just isn't an all or nothing situation. Do what you are comfortable with, be tolerant of differences and celebrate the freedom which allows you to do this.

Too much insisting on things being one way or another is not agreeable to tolerance nor acceptance. It's the 'either or mentality' which creates intolerance and hate which is completely counter to the spirit of the holiday whatever form it manifests.

Sorry Straddle, but I had more to say than I thought—LOL!

We as a country have become PC morons. No matter how careful you are, you'll end up offending some jackass anyway.
Should I change what I say just because someone may be offended?
Funny thing...the same crowd who preach tolerance are the same people who are so INtolerant of my beliefs.
I say piss on em!
I will say Merry Christmas. That reflects my beliefs. If someone chooses to repyl with Happy Holidays, that's fine with me.
How long will we continue to walk on eggshells just to keep from upsetting somone who may not believe as we do? I'd rather enjoy life than wonder whether or not the guy next to me is offended. He's certainly not going to worry about me.
When did it stop being ok to stand up and speak out about what you believe?

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY!!!!!

Anyone offended? Hate me if you want....but have a Merry Christmas anyway.
Kudos, Straddle

Actually I prefer Happy Fourth of July.... You know....fireworks 'n WARM WEATHER? Remember warm weather???

C'mon people...whatever one wants to say. I'm so sick of the fuckin' nitpickin' over shit like this. If that's all someone has to do is set around and think this shit up then they have my sincere sympathy for a brain that just barely functions.

I say Merry Christmas. If that offends you then..... Get over it already.

So so I but I have to be careful who I say that to in the middle of the bible belt or that Yule log burning might just be my house in the middle of the night. You have preachers down here devoting their whole sermons against people of other religions. Not very Christian like if you ask me.

I think it is kind of weird that some Christians get all up in arms about people saying Happy Holidays. Not everybody celebrates Christmas, so many businesses tell their employees to say Happy Holidays as a way to cover all the bases. It just makes sense to me.

I hear ya Shewolf.. if we question them we are damned for all eternity, but if they stand in our faces and say stupid shit.. we are supposed to take it.

I'm not against Merry Christmas, though Jesus was born in March or May.. and Christmas was bastardized over the winter solstice to appease the pagan hoard.. You have a Merry Christmas anyway.

I'm not against any other holiday word being spouted or touted.. it's all good.. but yeah, Christians, though you may still technically be in the majority? You aren't the only people on this planet who have a holiday in December. I'm not about political correctness.. just about honoring everyone's right to believe what they will.

That's just wrong!
I say Merry Christmas because it's what I believe in. But I also believe that everyone else has as much right as I do to have their own beliefs and to celebrate them.

So... from my home to yours, I wish you ALL the Happiest of Holidays and a Merry Christmas!

I'm not about political correctness.. just about honoring everyone's right to believe what they will.

I'm Pagan, and I still say Merry Christmas. I still listen to the carols sung by Nat King Cole, Frank sinatra, and Bing Crosby. I celebrate Yule, and the traditional Christmas Day. Some may call me confused, but I just enjoy the tradition. And to the liberals in the ACLU: Merry Christmas you fuckers!
