My spirit sees December this way...

December is black... black radishes pulled up in the garden, death, endings, end of the year, roll it all up in a ball, it's finished. end of the sun…dark days and cold nights. Dead leaves and black crackling branches beneath my feet. Soot on my hands from stoking the fireplace. Pine sap turned black on the sides of my hands while weaving a holiday wreath. Deep introspection. RELEASE. It's gone. Nothing you can do about it. except... indulge!

December's palate of black is a heart of dark CHOCOLATE, called 'chocolat noir' in French. I'll make chocolate truffles scented with cardamon. I'll brew a new batch of vanilla extract. I'll make mulled wine and share with friends. Oh the joys and blessings of this time of the year. How about a load of seasoned oak logs for the fire and a chocolaty tree trunk cake called a Noel Log? I'll make gingerbread men and eat the last of the charred chestnuts on the open fire.

My physical side says, "I don't do cold worth a damn!'

Are these two diametrically opposed thoughts and behaviors enough to have me diagnosed with a dual personality disorder? All I know for certain is while I'm with family and friends during Christmas my 'other' self will joyfully be lolling on a beach in Bali!

Merry Christmas!

Loved it!!!

Actually, I'm ok with December...snow is fresh, hadn't seen it for a while, so yes, I get a bit excited with anticipating that first snow fall. Until it dumps half a foot of snow and I have to spend half an hour to an hour clearing my driveway. I'm more eager, tolerant, of snow before Christmas. I'm one of those who likes a White Christmas. After that, I start whining and want Spring to hurry up!

I am one of those who should probably live somewhere above the artic circle. I love snow and do not mind getting out in it a bit. Love cold weather too. Now if that snow would just head this way I would be very happy. We rarely get snow and that is usually way after Christmas. What we do get is cold miserable rain. I would take the snow any day over that.

I do a lot of baking in the winter and make a lot of frybread with powdered sugar and hot herbal tea. I grow the herbs myself in my back yard and dry them for the winter. I never see winter as the end or dark or gloomy. It is more of a break from mowing grass, working in my little garden and getting around to putting up the Yule / Christmas tree and family gathering for the holidays. Lots of cooking and the house having the fragrance of things baking.

I believe I have a split personality! But they're kinda like a broken clock that is still correct twice a day! Both personalities love the warm months and both can't stand the cold months! So, there you have it- both agree with each other twice a year!

Just my 2¢ worth!

Me either: I see winter as the BEGINNING of dark and gloomy days... but that's just me!!!

Come on... every one is welcome! I even have a bag of pistachios for theSkwirl.

I have to draw the line at this one... it isn't even a possibility for me, but I admire people who can do it!

I'll be right over darling to keep you warm.
The fire in the hearth awaits!

I rarely watch sports and I don't have a TV... so there isn't a Cowboy fan on the premises.

Agreement is good wheether with yourselves and/or others—LOL!

it's finished. end of the sun…

I look at it this way...

December is actually the beginning. The beginning of the sun coming back. The days start to get longer on December 21st...the winter solstice. It's a time to welcome the sun and enjoy watching the earth renew itself again.

But it really is too damn cold!
