What's going on these days?

I've been posting some old stuff...stuff I've written over the last couple of years and posted elsewhere. Just wanted to see if any of it would garner attention...and it did.

So...Thanksgiving is coming up. I guess I'm cooking...or rather, Canu and I are cooking. We'll figure it out. We both cook around here...I cook when I'm not working nights...he cooks if I am. It works out to about 50/50. Once in a while one or another of the boys will volunteer to cook...which is nice and good for them. The oldest knows how to pretty much fend for himself, but the younger two still have a few things to learn about finding their way around a kitchen.

Right now it looks like it will four of us. The oldest is going to Ohio to spend the holiday with his dad and family. If the younger ones'
mom decides she wants to spend the day with'll just be the two of us!

I'll still cook a big meal...left-overs are as much a tradition as the actual meal. Then we can sit down on the couch and watch some midget mean football.

My in-laws plan on stopping by later in the I guess I better make some pie too. Better yet...Canu can make a chocolate cream pie. Yummy!

Does anyone think its strange that I get along not only with Canu's ex...but her parents as well? Her mom is on my Facebook page! Her dad stops and chats with me when he comes to my store to shop. Its a good thing considering their grandson's live with us.

Speaking of my store...had another idiot come in with a phone attached to his head. He walked thru the entire a furnace filter and got to the check out with the phone stuck to his head. It wasn't until he had paid for the filter that he looked at me and spoke. To me. Said "Umm...excuse me, but this filter was supposed to be $8.97" It rang up at $10.97. I called the department...sure enough, the filter is $10.97. He insisted it was not. He's still on the phone. I told him he would have to go back to the department and point out where he picked up the filter and show the department manager where it said $8.97. He walked back to the department. Still on the phone. Dept. Manager is waiting. Guy...while talking on the phone...points to the filter that he picked up. Then points to the label on the shelf ABOVE it. Dept manager points to label on the shelf where to filter is at. Sure enough...$10.97.
The guy never got off the phone! Barely interrupted his conversation. Maybe if he had gotten off for 5 whole minutes...he could've saved 20 minutes...and maybe even $2.00 by getting the cheaper filters. At least he would've been paying attention to what he was doing!

That's my biggest pet peeve at work. I do not speak to people who are on the phone while checking out. And I will make sure I am extra friendly to the next person in line...especially if the one who was on the phone can still hear me.

That's my story...and I'm stickin' to it.

Hope your Thanksgiving turns out to be a nice one.

As to the phone guy.....he deserves about as much respect as he was showing. I work in customer service myself, and there have been plenty of times I would have loved to have told certain guests where they really can go.

Chocolate cream pie? Oh that is my favorite!!!!

I don't thinnk it is strange that you get along with Canu's ex and her family. I'm rather envious. The boys have such a healthy example to follow. Good for you!

I'll bet if you took the phone away from him and listened all you'd get is a dial tone. Many people just use them for a prop or accessory their cool and have very busy lives and lots of friends ...rather sad ...

I worked customer service for 12 years. I used to tell customers glued to their phones in a friendly tone of voice that I would be happy to help them as soon as they finish their conversation. They usually hung up and things went a lot faster.

Not working at Penney's has its perks this time of year. No 12 hour days and not having to explain to someone on Christmas Eve that if they had shopped earlier we would have had the size of Christmas dress they were looking for while they have a meltdown in the middle of the children's department. When I was working there by the time the holiday finally arrived I was so over the holiday season and wanting it to all be over with. True the unemployment is not as much as I would be making this time of year, but not being stressed out is worth it.

There will be 8 people here for the holidays. Both my sons who are in the Army will be home. Next year that won't be possible as my oldest son and possibly my youngest son will be deployed. So I intend to make the most of the time they can spend here.
