Dear Friends of Art Springer,

When I last wrote to you, Art had just been discharged from a hospital and returned to the nursing home he disliked, while Leo and I were working on getting him to a better situation. Events took a different turn. A week later, Art was back in a different hospital with more serious problems and we got the word yesterday that he had died there.

It has been a miserable five months for him. One wishes there had been a better outcome, but not that he would have gone on and on suffering. Now we are trying to settle his affairs, with his sister's blessing, if we legally can. This means trying to get papers he considered important to a suitable destination for their preservation. We also plan to arrange a simple memorial gathering, and will let you know when that will take place.

Other than papers, old furniture and memories, Art has nothing to leave, but music in the background reminds me that Mozart was buried in an unmarked grave, but what a mark he made on our world by passing through it. In his own way, so did Art. We will miss his feisty intelligent commentary on public affairs, and his friendship.

God bless you all for your caring concern and bless Art too. Sincerely, Peter Salmon

I have Peter's phone number if anyone wants it. This is all I can say...I'm very saddened by this. I hope he knew at that end how many people cared for him and prayed for him.

My condolences.

He brought a different point of view to the table and I appreciated that. If there is an afterlife, I hope he is happy and in no pain anymore.

Death leaves a heart ache
that no one can heal.
But Love leaves a memory
that no one can steal.

May your family find peace and comfort at this time knowing he is
now safely in Gods precious hands.
My heart and my prayers are with you.

Good Bye my dear friend.

This is sad. He was a very educated, insightful, man and my life was better for him being on here.

.........and we shall rejoice at a death and mourn at a birth, for the first is in a place far better and the latters troubles have just began..........
Knowing he suffers no more makes loss easier. He left his mark on many lives.

Art always spoke his mind and like his comments or not I respected him for taking a stand on subjects.

He will be missed.

I never really liked the guy but I'm sad that he's gone. He inspired ppl to voice their opinions on things they might not have spoken up on. To those of you who cared about him.....I'm sorry for your loss. Any person that has an effect on your life, good or bad, is a loss

Thanks Sunny for letting use know. I'm glad he had music with him during his final time. I know how much he loved it. Make me feel good to know he had the friends and the things he loved most with him in the end.

In keeping with his culture, Art will be buried tomorrow at 9:30am in Staten Island. If anyone can think of anything they would like said, or done, please let me know in private email.
Chuck, I'd like to send Peter your words to be read tomorrow. I've also asked that "Ode to Joy" be played...Art once told me he'd like that played at his funeral.

I will refrain from submitting any of my woefully inadequate long distance words. Suffice it to say that as he touched lives and made friends on AMD, he overwhelmingly did so in the course of life. They knew him better and I am sure can convey his value, his principles, and voice for championing those that are forgotten or fell through the cracks of society with far more poignancy than I can.
