Today has been crummy. Weather is damp, dreary, blah. Even getting some work, and supplementing with underemployment payments, I still came up a few bucks short for my mortgage payment. I hated doing it, but I asked my Dad to help out. It isn't so much pride that I hated having to ask him, but, it is because I know he is struggling also. Yes, Dad did give me the extra bucks I needed in order to make my mortgage payment, that is taken care of. But, while over at my parents house today....he discovered his roof is leaking. A roof that had been a total tear off and replaced roughly 10 years ago. And, I heard him saying he hopes his standing with the credit union is good enough for him to get a loan to repair next Spring. I knew he was struggling, I just didn't realize it until today just how bad it is for him. Now I feel like shit having asked him for help. I tried to give the money back, but he refused it..said to get the mortgage paid. I would give my right arm to be able to give him the money he needs to get his roof repaired, but, I don't have it. I look at the publisher's clearing house bulletin and I have to laugh. How many people take this stuff serious? You actually have a better shot with Mega Millions than with PCH.

I know others are having it rough, or, even rougher than I, I just wanted to get this out of my system. This economy is a BITCH!!!!!!!!!!!

You loe your Dad and he loes you. A few bucks here and there to help you isn't going to repair his roof. He just wants to help. It's ok.
I hear ya with the money problems. I just paid Augusts housenote last week. Am I ever going to catch up? I don't know. It looks possible. Hang in there honey. The best is yet to come!

I know how you feel but people are coming up with ideas to get through this! One thought I had (and I don't know how long you have had your house), if you have a payment where more money is going on your principle than on your interest for each payment, you might consider talking to the mortgage company about making an interest only payment, when you get in a bind during any one month! That way, you won't get in trouble with the mortgage company and you'll have a few extra bucks if you need it! I just wouldn't make a habit of it! Worst thing that could happen, is it might take slightly longer to pay it off or, you could always make it up, when you get a job!

Can't hurt to talk to your mortgage company about the feasibility of doing so, if you need to! Better that, then missing a payment for being a few dollars short!

Just a thought!

In your dad's case, if he has a mortgage, he has homeowners insurance, it should cover most of that roof, or a good chunk if there a maintenance issues.

I think most of us feel your pain. Even those of us with jobs just staying even with rising costs is next to impossible.

On a side note

This is not quite true. Most typical homeowners policies will not pay for a leaky roof unless there was damage due to storm/winds. They will however pay for the damage inside the house due to water damage. I know because it happened to me. Came home after visiting my husband in the hospital to find the ceiling of the 2nd. bath on the floor and the room flooded from a leaky roof where the addition met the rest of the house. Insurance paid for an entire new bathroom which I couldn't start on till I had the money to pay for roof repair. It was several months before I could get the roof then the bath fixed.

Sad to say, but I don't need any money. Got enough to make it just fine.

I need body parts. Heart, lungs, kidnets, most of all a brain.
