Like the United States, Canada gives thanks for its good fortune once a year and eats itself silly with turkey and mashed potatoes.
Whereas in the US, Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November, in Canada the second Monday of October is a statutory, or public, holiday. This year, Canadian Thanksgiving falls on Monday, Oct 12, 2009.
Although Canadians do tend to get together on Thanksgiving weekend, the holiday is not as big a deal in Canada as it is in the US, where Thanksgiving seems to be the year's biggest holiday occasion. Nevertheless, Thanksgiving weekend is a popular time for Canadians to gather with family.
Canada does not have a big shopping day after Thanksgiving the way the United States does. Boxing Day - December 26th - is the equivalent in terms of big sales and shopping extravaganzas in Canada. It has been my personal experience that the deals are better on the day after Thanksgiving in the U.S. when compared to the shopping deals found on Boxing Day in Canada.
Living in Canada means my son and I get to eat a big turkey dinner twice in one year, and we also get to take part in two mega shopping weekends each year.
A win-win situation if you ask me.
So...what are you thankful for?
Me: I'm thankful for family, good friends, my health, and a job I love.
Gobble, gobble.

For your blog I give you a kudo. And for your Thanks Giving I offer you this. Happy Thanks Giving KitKat
Dear Lord, Every single evening As I’m lying here in bed, This tiny little Prayer Keeps running through my head: God bless all my family Wherever they may be, Keep them warm and safe from harm For they’re so close to me.
And God, there is one more thing I wish that you could do; Hope you don't mind me asking, Please bless my computer too.
Now I know that it's unusual To Bless a motherboard, But listen just a second While I explain it to you, Lord.
You see, that little metal box Holds more than odds and ends; Inside those small compartments Rest so many of my friends.
I know so much about them By the kindness that they give, And this little scraps of metal Takes me in to where they live.
By faith is how I know them Much the same as you. We share in what life brings us And from that our friendships grew.
Please take an extra minute From your duties up above, To bless those in my address book That's filled with so much love.
Wherever else this prayer may reach To each and every friend, Bless each e-mail inbox And each person who hits ’send’.
When you update your Heavenly list On your own Great CD-ROM, Bless everyone who says this prayer Sent up to God.com Amen

Even though it's been a rough year, I'm thankful that:
I finally got paid for a job I did back in February, for a major corporation
I'll be starting a 'new' career soon
My physiological alarm clock hasn't gone off yet
I can still get out of bed at a speed of ¼ MPH or better
Thanks giving is coming and I can see family, have Thanksgiving dinner and get my coveted 'Care Packages' of leftovers to take home!
I hope you have an enjoyable and safe Thanksgiving Day in Canada Kit!

The biggest thing I am thankful for right now is having a job (and being able to find one in the last couple months due to the office I worked for shutting down in August) because the unemployment rate in my state (Ohio) is 10.5%.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family
