I tried to turn on my computer monitor last night and it wouldn't turn on. It was working fine on Tuesday and now all of the sudden, the damn thing won't work. There is power going to it because the speakers on it will turn on, but when I try to hit the button to turn on power....nothing. It just figures too....I got my computer and monitor from my old job and it was only about 2 years old. I've had it at home for about a month and a half now...maybe 2 months and I have hardly used it.

Anybody have any ideas why it might not be turning on? I have unplugged it and plugged it back in. I don't even know if trying to get it fixed would be worth it. Probably cheaper just to buy a new one. It's a Dell monitor and the cheapest one I found on their site is around $189

I guess my next question is.....where can I find a cheaper monitor (that will last a while)?

Check your local thrift store or pawn shop for a monitor. Really inexpensive there.

I am sure that you can find one cheap on CraigsList. More often than not, when somebody buys a new PC it will come with a free monitor. I think I have three in my garage.

Could have popped a fuse inside of it [that would be separate from your speakers] but fuses usually pop for a reason- like a short some where in the electronics inside of it!

Sunshine's suggestion is a good one- also try to find a flat screen LCD monitor, instead of an old and heavy monitor! The flat screen monitors are light weight and the colors are more saturated, richer and the text crispier!

Only thing is, if you decide to buy one, make sure you see it working before you buy it- sometimes a 'dot' [called a pixel] will be stuck 'on'. In most cases, you probably won't notice it, depending on what is being displayed! But if you see more than one pixel that is stuck 'on', don't buy it! Watch the monitor as the PC is booting up- any bad pixels will show up as a constant 'dot' in some color or white!

I personally won't buy a monitor with even one 'dot' stuck on! Also, if the specs are a 19" screen, then it's a 19" screen [diagonally- corner to corner] That isn't the case with older monitors!

Personally, I like Acer products and use them when I upgrade my PC or build one!

Currently, I see a 17" Acer LCD monitor for $109.99! If you want to know where I buy from, let me know or anyone can contact me for the info if you want! If I get a lot of requests, I'll blog it!

Try Amazon.com. I found one there two years ago for $35 and it still works great.

I almost forgot there is also refurbdepot.com. I bought an acer computer there for half the price of in the stores and it is in great shape.

I agree with Ewe (tigerdirect.com) I got my monitor there and it was cheaper than I could find anywhere else. They have a 22" for 139.99, 20" for 109.99, 19" for 109.99, and a 17" for 89.99.

Don't buy a new one, monitors are dirt cheap.

My nephew is a computer tech and got one at Goodwill.

Som is right. My new computer has an LCD flat screen and I love it! Doesn't take up as much space on the computer desk either.

Hi DC, I am pretty good with this stuff, so Here's my 2 cents, first, you need to hook up a monitor that you know is good, if the computer works fine, your safe, if it doesn't, you have more problems than just a monitor, could be, the Mother Board is gone on the computer. If that isn't it ( that was worse case ) I highly recomend you go to Best buy. Tell you why, they always have models that are displays and discontinued, you can buy them for a whim and a prayer, compared to there normal price. I am talking big name brands. I just picked up a dell 32", for under a hundred dollars.

Just go to Walmart. I did a few years ago and got a 17" screen for roughly $105
